I'm surprised. They were together for 10 years before they got married.

"Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together," Jewel writes. "We have no desire to damage ourselves and each other in the process ... while we learn to redraw ourselves in whatever new shape we find as separate people who are still striving to be the best versions of ourselves- as humans and as parents."

I'm rather surprised at this news too. I've read that they live on a huge ranch in Texas and live pretty private lives away from the spotlight. Oh well, it happens.

She's very talented. I watched a Christmas show of some sort several years ago. It may (have been a special she had) and her paintings and other things she hand crafted were shown. She also writes outside of writing music and sings.

ITA w/ your comments. I, too, am sorry to learn this. She has not had an easy life--she was homeless-her mother had very little to do with her--but she was talented and made it fairly big due to that diligence and talent! I've heard her on some interviews, and she is both intelligent and gracious. I like her music! She has a lovely voice.
