Another Scam

In checking my e-mails this morning, I received one from USPS......telling me I had a parcel waiting for me at the Post Office and I should print out a copy of the shipping label and go to the Post Office to pick it up.

There is no way the PO has my e-mail address......and I have been at home and no postal employee has rang my doorbell to deliver anything to me.

I didn't click on anything......immediately got rid of it in my junk mail.

Please don't fall for this if you get it.

It's so annoying! I've received those e-mails from both UPS and USPS, as well as Amazon. Sure wish these jerks would put their "talents" to better use!

Be very careful.........I know a couple of folks around here who are 'taken in' by telephone solicitors........sending money to various 'charities' and having 'energy' people come into their house, etc. If they would (or maybe their adult children) research the source(s), they would find scams, etc. I only donate to local long-standing charities and whatever(s). Local offices that have been around for years and years. Of, course, St. J*de is one of a few that I thoroughly trust and I do donate long distance, mainly because they don't solicit by phone, which I appreciate.

I get emails for airlines too saying my tickets are ready.

Got a call from a man saying my computer is sending out rogue messages. He wanted access to my computer. I laughed and hung up on him.

I started contributing to St Jude's last Christmas. I was shocked when I started getting telephone solicitations very frequently. I finally contacted them and requested that they stop, or I'd stop my contributions. Since I have caller ID, I never answer my calls, unless I know who is calling.

I got one from UPS with a bogus tracking number. Called UPS and no such number existed.

What do these scammers get out of this?

I have gotten this. A couple of years ago, I got one from Fed X and did click because I was waiting for a pkg, but didn,t give info.

That is the REALLY BAD trojan virus going around. I saw a news story on it, they said the hackers typically use emails pretending to be UPS or DHL or FEDEX and then if you click on the link you are basically beyond help. The hackers load a virus that locks up your computer and holds it hostage, and they demand you to send them money, the longer you wait to pay, the more it costs, and if you don't pay at all, they crash your hard drive and you lose everything on it. They interviewed people, some who did pay, some who didn't. Those that didn't had to go purchase new computers because there was no fix for it. If they didn't backup their files, they lost pictures, important documents... whatever was on there.

They said they have been able to catch a few of the guys responsible for this, but there are still far too many out there. Some of them are doing this hacking from halfway around the world.

A good rule of thumb is NEVER EVER click on a link in an email unless you know the person it came from. If you are expecting a package or delivery, you will get a tracking number and you can go to that site and trace it.

Glad to hear you were smart and didn't open that file.

Just this week, I got an email from paypal. There was a spelling error and they wanted me to click on an enclosed link. I reported it as spam.

Yes, and those foreigners telling us that they can fix our 'Windows', etc. My gosh, one would think that our gov could press a button and stop those incoming calls. They HAVE to know exactly where and who they are, with modern technology and all...........

I go round and round with my Mother about this. She opens and clicks everything like she is obligated. Well, she got a virus and it basically froze everything. Luckily I could go into safe mode and download AVG, scan it and it was gone.

I tell her...Mom the post office doesn't know your email.

If you answer by clicking on a link, the scammers get your email address making it easier for them to hack you. They also can use your reply to prove your email is an active addresss so they can sell it to someone else! That's what they get.

It's a 2 year old scam. People know not to click strange links. this one attaches a virus to your computer.

Actually, the caller ID said St Jude's and they didn't dispute the fact when I asked that the calls be stopped. I was really surprised. (And yes, they did immediately stop the calls.)

We got a call from a man saying he was a Sheriff and wanted us to pay the money owed for warrants from the past. He wanted to arrest my husband. My husband asked a few questions. We have never been in the County he was from and the Case Numbers didn't make sense nor did the charges. Sounded official except they wanted money orders sent to such and such a place to clear the warrants. They were good at their scam but my husband is better at recognizing such lies.

Everyone needs to challenge these people and get THEM behind bars.

Unfortunately it's not uncommon for charities to hound contributors for more and/or sell their information to other charities.

I got a call from a "children's cancer" charity. I told them I don't donate to anyone over the phone. She said "oh no, we do it by mail". I said "then why are you calling me?" and hung up.
