Who writes all those

Dumb and annoying commercials. I have gone to generic items when I can so not to give the sponsors any of my hard earned cash. I have taped my favorite shows but even watching them I accidentally run across some doozers.

To me the worst commercials are Time Warner Cable. At least 30 or 40 times a day, over and over. Every channel, every program!! Same stupid thing!!

The person who writes commercials is called a "Copy Writer". A lot of people and functions are involved with "making" a commercial. The functions are the same as making a very short TV show: Producer, Director, Editor, etc.

Within an advertising agency, perhaps the most influential person is the "Creative Director". That person has department management responsibility but has great influence on the work withing their group.

Copy Writers and Art Directors will report to the CD, and the CD may be the one who chooses and hires the Director etc. There is no one person who "makes a commercial."

I usually can fast forward through commercials, too, moxie. I would boycott the satellite company with the creepy puppet wife.

I have no interest in satellite tv but I think that's a good commercial along with the creepy puppet kid.

Really? LOL. There's a new one where the wife's father wants to fight his son-in-law. It just creeps me out

I DVR so see maybe 2 commercials a week, but that puppet commercial is freaking creepy!!!!!! And the one with her in the lingerie seems kind of risqué. Maybe they only show it at night, idk. But either way, I cannot stand it.

Some ARE horrible but some are amazingly clever...

And many generics are made by the same folks who make the brand names, so boycotting them really doesn't put much of dent in anyones pocketbook..

So true. I remember once when there was a big recall of peanut butter. I saw a kid taking all the peanut butter off the shelf, every single brand - even the WalMart store brand. I said, Is every brand being recalled, I thought it was just Peter Pan (or whatever name brand it was) ? He said, they are all from the same lot.

interesting info, minkbunny......I remember that recall of Peter Pan...one and only peanut butter I ate....at the time I worked in a supermarket and that was the only brand they pulled from their shelves...how odd...I wonder if anyone got sick....not that it matters now....I guess we don't realize how many brands are within the brands...

It is very interesting, circles. I was just reading a blog called Mommysavers where lots of people were posting the same thing, here is a snippet

Here was the question, there were a lot of answers along the same vein -

Once upon a time Consumer Reports had a article on generics being the same as my brand name companies, with just different (generic) label put on them. Did anyone else see this article?
I would love to get my hands on it and post it here.

Some answers -

I've never seen the article but i know it's true. I used to work in a factory that made sandwich bags ,garbage bags, wet wipes and cotton swabs and the same product went into many different brands of packages. Topco, Value's choice, store brands,etc.Food canning companies also do this.

He gave the example of bleach. He said that he picked up a load of bleach from a factory that had several different labels on it, even though it was the same bleach, bottled in the same factory. We like generics even better now Stop & Shop Corn Flakes and oatmeal and the Target brand of Honey Nut Cheerios are some of our favorites!

As the previous poster stated, this happens with canned food also. I worked briefly at a canning factory (in the office) and, literally the labels would change every x amount, but, it would be the same product on the line. For example, Green Giant labels, Seneca labels, and, store brand labels would all be packaged the same day. So, it is the exact same item, same people, same date, different label. It really made me re-think things!

mink....now that is even more interesting......I am guilty of only buying ""brand"" names thinking they are better quality....guess I will have to rethink my purchases going forward..

You are welcome. I imagine in some cases (probably the peanut butter scare) some stores just remove it all regardless but it is good to know that many generics really are the same as their name brand counterparts.

My late husband worked at a plant during college that made washers and dryers. He said all the bodies inside were the same, they just dropped the outer shell over them with the name of the brand they were on it.

That peanut butter butter was made by Con Agra. I avoid their products like the plague.
