Paid 12,000 for new windows due to a leak, yes 12 thousand. Was supposed to be installed in about 5 weeks. We ordered in April so they would be installed prior to hurricane season. Now it's been 9 weeks. Few phone calls, few problems they had making windows. The company called last week, they were to be put in to tomorrow. I arranged to be off. This morning I started taking drapes down etc. company called, "Oh we cannot come tomorrow, we are tied up at our prior job yadda, yadda, yadda..." I was upset. I cannot get a day off next week and then the week after we are on vacation! The guy could not understand why I am upset! I am furious, I admit that! Wouldn't you be? Probably will be punished now and they have half our money! Don't say you are going to come and then not? Opinions, he acted like I should not be so upset. Is that anyway to run a business or am I over reacting! I am mad and let him know it!

Yes, I would be very upset as well. I always made it very clear when I scheduled something that I was having to take time off from work to be home for the delivery or installation, and therefore the work had to be done on the day they had it scheduled. Could they not get there later in the day tomorrow, or agree to come on Saturday? $12,000 is a hefty price for windows; it seems the company could be more accommodating considering what they are making off this job, or be willing to give a discount because of the inconvenience. Hoping you find a pleasing solution!

$12,000 for windows - are the sashes made of gold? We just got an estimate for hurricane proof windows and sliding doors for our whole house of $5000.

Too bad you can't install them yourselves. We did ours. For 12,000 I would make sure they came when you wanted them too.

That's quite a deal!!! Make sure you get what you want/need. We had "Pella" windows installed in our 100+ old house and each window was around $2,000. Worth it though! They are beautiful and they tip and are easy to clean even though they look like old-fashioned sash windows. I live in a historic district and everything has to be approved by an architectural review board.

If they run into problems on your job and it takes an extra day would you expect them to put off the next in line and finish your job or go to the next and line and leave you waiting for completion?

I can understand your frustration but at least the company called and gave you a heads up.

I can understand how frustrated you must be...maybe they could give you a bit of a discount for your inconvenience...I know that doesn't help the situation. Sorry.

Windows are expensive depends on the type she is having installed and the size. We have 3 windows over our fireplace that are around $2,000 dollars.

Ours will be white vinyl as required by the HOA - open top and bottom - tip in to clean and are guaranteed not to break in winds up to 250MPH. Can't ask for much more than that from a window.

The windows the previous owners of our house had installed were almost $17,000 for 20. Our next door neighbor had theirs installed in 10 hours and they had 23.

I know it's frustrating, but I have learned that with any type of remodeling, whatever they say is the completion date, you need to add half again the amount of time. Example-2 weeks is really 3.

I don't blame you for being angry. There is really nothing you can do now but reschedule for after your return from your vacation.

It's too late now but in the future if you contract to have work done include a penalty clause in the contract, businesses do this, that they are charged a fee for every day past the promised date of completion. If it's going to cost them for delays, there will be no excuses and no delays.

When we had a major remodeling job done on our house in Pa the contractor put into the contract - if he wasn't done by a certain date - he would forfeit 10% then if it still wasn't done by a date 4 weeks later another 10%. He also put in if it was done 2 weeks before the date we would pay an extra 10%. He finished it right on time.Now I know to put this into any contract I get in to with any contractor.

Also, be sure to put in the contract "time is of the essence".

Apparently you have fewer windows. We paid a good deal more than the OP but we have a large home with a lot of windows.

OP,

I'd be furious. I'd ask for compensation for the day you took off work.

Thanks for the kind words! Sometimes I feel like I am losing my mind. The guy acted like I shouldn't be upset? The called me with the day of installation. And made me call back to confirm, total of 3 phone calls. and, we only put half down. A reputable company, great rating at the BBB.

Do you know if they even have your windows? We had a similar issue when we had a new patio door installed, the company had not received the door from the manufacturer in the time frame promised.

You have every right to be upset. Your options may be limited, you can start with filing a complaint with the BBB since you said they have a good rating there. Tell them that you intend to post a review at yelp.com.
