before you turn on the A/C? Do you just leave it on all the time set at a certain temperature?

It was 81 degrees inside and very humid....so I officially shut the windows and turned it on today for the first time.

I prefer to cool down with natural breezes...but sometimes it's just too much!

In Wisconsin the air conditioning comes on as soon as the heat turns off. The temps on both units are set very close to the same (68 heat, 70 a/c) but the humidity is constant. If our a/c isn't running then the basement dehumidifier is FOR SURE.

Because we had such a long cold winter it didn't get humid as quickly this year but the mold and tree/grass pollens were predicted and turned out to be HIGH this year so keeping windows open for long periods of time isn't an option anyway.

For us, it's as much the level of humidity as it is the temperature. Live in the center of a wooded area and the humidity becomes stiffling.

It depends on how the house feels. I have two air conditioners. The upstairs one has been on for months now. I cannot sleep when it's hot and humid.

The downstairs one I can play around with. I like to have the front door open and the windows open when it's nice out.

We don't have screens on our windows, so opening them isn't an option. I live in Atlanta so we usually turn the the A/C on pretty early in the spring. We keep it set at 75, day and night.

We don't have a prayer of cooling down at this time of the year. The a/c unit is set for 74 inside so it comes on when it's needed. 24/7. I used to set it higher when I left the house but that didn't make a lot of sense considering how long it would take to cool the house down when I returned.

Humidity is the determining factor for me. I've had the A/C on and had to switch back to heat on some cold nights so far this season. Right now, all of my windows are open is there is a light breeze. The humidity is increasing and the temps are going to the mid and upper 80's today so the air will be kicked on shortly. Once it's on - I set a temperature and let the unit do it's thing.

It gets hot in my apartment. So, I would say that the AC comes on around 74-75 degrees during the day. At night, I turn it off and use a fan.

The only AC that we use is the one in our 4 season patio room and the portable one in our master bedroom where my wife sleeps. She turns it on when she needs it to be comfortable.

When she is home and in the patio room I leave it up to her if she needs the AC on to be comfortable. Haven't had the whole house AC or furnace on for years now and use only the above mentioned in the patio room for heat. In the masters bedroom we have an infrared heater quartz heater that will keep that room as warm as she likes.

Worked in a hot factory for over 30 years and spent lots of my time sweating during all of my training sessions. Being hot is more natural to me than to most and even at my advanced age I am maybe more acclimated to heat and humidity that others because of my past ways of living and functioning.

Living in LV we turn it on usually mid April and it runs 24/7 through Sept. Reading these posts I'm amazed at the temperature some of you set yours at. Ours is set at a constant 77. I can't imagine a setting any lower or I'd have to wear a sweater to stay comfortable. (We're going to be in an oven next week with temps of 110+ and I'm not looking forward to it.) I forgot to say that we also have ceiling fans in great room, den and bedrooms that run most of the day.

Depends on how it feels inside the house. A/C usually goes on when it reaches 80 inside. It's set to keep it at about 75.

I try to open the house after dark as long as the night temps go down to at least 75 outside. A small fan in the bedroom keeps it comfortable overnight.
