I do hope that reports of her getting to keep the scholarship money are correct. She did lose more than the money, however. She resigned from an internship and something else after winning; she is not sure she will be able to get them back. She also loses out on other opportunities for earnings via the pageant.

Their mistake and she should be compensated for it. Her age was verified many times over and she was told it wasn't a problem. I think it's someone's interpretation of the age rule that is in question-

DOVER, Del. — Pageant officials say the woman named Miss Delaware less than two weeks ago will lose her crown because she's older than the Miss America organization allows.

Twenty-four-year Amanda Longacre was crowned June 14, WDEL-AM, reports. Longacre will turn 25 on Oct. 22, before year's end. According to its website, Miss America pageant rules require contestants to be between the ages of 17 and 24.

Carolyn Nelson, media relations coordinator for the Miss Delaware organization, tells The State News in Dover that Longacre did nothing wrong and had accurately reported her birthdate on applications.

Longacre will lose the $9,000 scholarship. She tells The State News that she nown has nothing to show for her efforts in competing in the pageant.

First runner-up Brittany Lewis was awarded the crown Thursday night.

********************************************************************************************************

So what do you think? I think the Delaware pageant officials made the mistake, and I think she should get to keep her scholarship money, even if she can't compete in the Miss America pageant. Let the runner up do that, but don't deny Amanda her scholarship money when she's not the one to blame! It was the responsibility of the state pageant officials to check on any requirements for the national pageant.

I think that pageants are throwbacks to an ancient era.

They tend to be petty and superficial.

The sooner people wake up and end beauty pageants, the better!

BTW - Can't WAIT to see the new Bravo show about the Mrs. America women...it looks like a hoot!

Plus - $9000 scholarship? That will get her about 3 courses somewhere.

She probably spent a lot more than that on gowns, new teeth, new b00bs, lipo, extensions...on and on.

Guess you have to read ALL the small print. The officials who let her compete had all her info and told here she was eligible because she would still be 24 at the time of the Miss America Pageant. Her chances of winning that are only 1 in 50, so the fact she would be 25 later in the year is probably a moot point.

She not only lost her scholarship, but she withdrew from an internship offer from the Department of Justice in order to fulfill her duties as Miss Delaware and doesn't know if that offer is still viable.

I think she will come out on top in this if she gets a good lawyer and will probably get more recognition as a result of this.

And yet this morn's news said there is yet a second one now in another state (they just said this is the second time this has happened in 2 weeks) that has lost her crown - because the judges tabulated the scores wrong - really? Seriously, in both these cases the girls did nothing wrong - and on the second one where apparently the judges added wrong, I'd be too embarrassed to admit that!

If there is nothing more to the statement, "Miss America pageant rules require contestants to be between the ages of 17 and 24." I would say she is entitled to keep the crown since she is no longer a contestant, she is the title holder.
