Hey, the straykatz discussion was going slightly OT so I thought we could continue it here maybe.

Found, was it fun dealing blackjack? I love to play cards and it seems like it would be cool to play with the house money. I'd get fired though cuz I'm not very good at it.

Sometimes. But, in the big picture it just disgusted me. Not pleasurable hanging out with drunken gamblers 5 nights a week. Starting out, all dealers are put on swing shift or the overnight shift....day shift is not as bad but you meet drunken players during the day too.

I'll bet the drunks could get mean when they lost too.

Late at night some would get really raunchy and depending on where you worked you had to watch yourself. Very few places let you give them back a snappy retort but I never liked being someone's doormat and taking abuse from some frigging moron.

I read somewhere that the odds are actually in your favor if you really know how to play blackjack (not card counting).

Gambling addictions can be serious.....I watched an inlaw lose everything he owned and also had thugs threatening him and his family because of gambling debts.

I think my late grandmother was addicted to bingo...she went 6-7 nights per week.

Yeah. I wouldn't like that either. Sometimes waitresses have the same problem. The customers think you are their personal servant. Although I'll say a couple of times the meanest ones gave the biggest tip!

I used to work at a Jai-Alai fronton, so sometimes I'd see the ugly side of gambling. But it could be interesting, too: This one man used to carry a small suitcase into the VIP Room. One of the other employees told me it was filled with money!

Different strokes for different folks. I gambled a lot of football for many years. I finally realized it was consuming a lot of my life and some of my money. Decided to quit it cold turkey and succeeded. I don't enter lotteries or buy tickets to any raffle. I did send in some money to the State Cancer Society once and won a $100 check, but I knew nothing about getting any prize. When the gave the check to me, in front of a camera for media exposure, I gave it back to them and told them to put it into their Cancer Fund.

Gave it up and have no intention of ever starting again. Liked card games when I was young but saw so many of my friends get drunk and fight each other over a card game. Decided to quit playing cards also as they inevitably seemed to end up in arguments or worse.

No cards for me thank you.

I went to a Jai-Alai game in Mexico once. Very interesting. But, yes in Las Vegas the MGM Grand now Ballys used to have Jai-Alai games but that abruptly ended with that horrific fire in 1980.

The waitresses can have it bad because they're so close to the customer who sometimes touches them. Good way to get 86'd. I've seen other waitresses though who shamelessly flirted. The ones I knew were happily married with kids and so kind of sickening if that's what it took to get a big tip.

Yuk! Well, I only waitressed when I was a kid first job type of thing. I was soooo naieve LOL! I couldn't believe how mean people could be! I don't think anyone ever tried to touch me. But then I was "Jailbait" so that probably had a lot to do with that!

Milford Jai-Alai, where I used to work, closed in 2001. People just seemed to lose interest. And the two casinos obviously took business away. Too bad, because it was fun while it lasted, and I enjoyed watching the games.
