QVC's sneaky marketing ploy

I've gotten two emails this week declaring that "your item is back in stock!" Problem is, they're products that I never put on wait list......or ever even looked at I don't think. One was a Dr. Denese product.... And I have used some of her products in the past but not this particular one. My guess is that QVC is trying to trick people into thinking that they had put a certain product on wait list.....or at least a wish list.....and had forgotten doing so. But this tactic definitely is designed to make you take a closer look and perhaps impulse buy. I think by using the words "your item" it's kind of a deceptive practice. What do you think? Just clever marketing? Or a bit underhanded?

This must be a new thing because I received an email advising that an eterna gold bracelet was back in stock. At one time, the bracelet was on my wish list.

I sometimes get emails reminding me of something I started to order, but didn't complete the order.

Why "sneaky". If I want it, I buy it. If not, I clear it out of my order records. No biggie.

to me this is another try and simply drumming up business because they need to do so. just from reading these boards, it's clear that we've all cut back to quite a degree from ordering, and I think it's more widespread throughout their business. I myself have never returned so many purchases as I have within this year...the reason being totally messed up sizing and fit from what you THINK you're going to receive when you order in the first place. and I ponder quite a while with deciding whether to order or not, all the while thinking I'll probably be returning the item$$$$$.

It's all just sales tactics. One way to combat it is go to your account and opt out of promotional emails and alerts.

Hi vilolan. I think it's "sneaky" because they are being deceptive when they say "your item" is back in stock , when it is neither an item I've ever ordered before , nor even expressed any interest in.

Given the extremely poor computer programming we've all seen on this website for ages, I suspect the issues isn't QVC trying to drum up business, or deceptive practices, but yet another automation glitch.

I've had instances where I put something in my cart, changed my mind and removed them from my cart only to have a reminder pop-up on my next visit to the website advising that I still have an item in my cart. When I look at the cart, it is empty.

QVC's responsibility lies in the fact that they apparently are clueless how to deal with poor computer support!

It is hard to believe, but we've seen the evidence of the poor automation efforts and management almost weekly. It just totally boggles my mind.

I think it's just a clever marketing practice and one that the Q is not alone in doing........bottom line.......we're all adults, we're all capable of hitting the delete button if we're not interested in the item.........no harm, no foul.....................................raven

It's happening all over. I'm about to remove my e-mail from Williams Sonoma's site because just looking at an item causes them to email me about it and if it goes on sale, more e-mails.

Joss & Mail and Overstock both have notified me that I left something in my basket when I hadn't ordered it or the basket order was already processed.

I am not that 'suggestible' so the Q will not get me to be prompted to buy some item that would never interest me or that I'd ever need or buy.

I get those irritating emails constantly from WS and its sister company Pottery Barn.

I get those emails too, they are items that I looked at few times. I don't remember doing it but I can tell that it's something that is my style. I don't think it's deceptive at all, just very advanced marketing that "knows" what I'm likely to want, before I know it. If I have no willpower, that's on ME.

eBay uses does it also based on items you have viewed. However, I only get their emails occasionally.

I don't know why but 2 months ago I started getting barraged with emails from the Q, all different topics, sales, advertising upcoming shows. After a few weeks of that I went in and adjusted my email preferences. Overstock and Kohls are two other companies that seem to send daily emails. I just delete them without reading.

It doesn't cost them anything to send it so it's smart. All they need is a few people to make a purchase and they come out ahead.
