Who Saw 'Jersey Boys?' What Did You Think?

It was a pleasant experience for me (if that isn't d-a-m-n-i-n-g with faint praise, nothing is). Of course I loved the music and much of the sound inspired me to move in my seat, but the movie unfolded too slowly for me. The basic scenes from the play are there, but of course a play works with a different aesthetic than a movie. With a play, you have concise, evocative dialogue and action. It doesn't move to the screen that well when you follow that precept but then add a little more dialogue and action to make the scenes more cinema-like.

The end is fantastic. It hit me, though, that it is good because those scenes weren't in the play, and Clint Eastwood brought out his real cinematic magic at that point.

Do see it, though. This is just one person's opinion.

My sister-in-law saw it yesterday and thought it was wonderful. It made her cry because that is when her and her husband were dating. He has passed away.

Interesting you should write what you did. I met my late husband when "My Eyes Adored You" was released the second time, and I cried when that was played in the movie. I always associate that song with the beginning of our love.

The reviews are lukewarm and I think we'll wait until it hits RedBox. It doesn't seem like a film that needs a big screen.

DH and I just got home from seeing it! I thought it was fantastic! I never knew Frankie Valli had such a tragic life. We saw him at Sea World in the early 90's - he performed there, after taking his young children around to see everything. He was standing next to us at one of the exhibits, just like a normal dad with no entourage (that we could tell!).

I loved the acting and the music.

Speaking of Clint Eastwood's children. . .

Both of his sons worked on the movie, and his daughter Francesca was in it.

I have seen the play twice in DC and saw the movie tonight. I thought the movie was very faithful to the play. I thought the funniest part was when Nick Massie who was the least outspoken of the group went into his rant about having to room with Tommy DeVito for 10 years.

My husband and I are hoping to see it next weekend. We usually wait to go when its empty because people (as in adult women) tend to blab during movies lately.

We saw it today. We both thought it was well done. I never did realize there were so many obstacles for them. I also started to cry a bit during some of the scenes. If you grew up in that era then it would be an interesting movie to see plus it will bring back fond memories if you were a Four Seasons lover.

Did he get married again and have another family? His kids were older by then and one was gone.

He did - He had a young son (about 6 or 7) from his current wife, and he talked about his daughter on stage that night. There were young children with him.

He had three wives. There were three daughters with the first wife (one or two of the daughters may have been from the wife's previous marriage) and three sons (including a set of twins) from the third marriage, I believe.

I am a bit fuzzy on this, admittedly. The only distribution I'm pretty sure about is the three sons with the last wife.

Frankie Valli has been married and divorced three times. He had 5 children by his third wife.

That is exactly what my paper said, flat, and the actor who played Frankie, did not come across as well on screen as he did on stage, gave it a fair review only.

My dad saw it yesterday. He said it was just "ok". I think he said our local paper gave it a "D", but I don't usually pay too much attention to the reviews if I want to see something.
