I heard that half of the human beings on earth will be watching at least some of the event.

Well, my husband is a huge fan. Maybe I should have him chime in -- lol. He has been a fan for over 30 years, always hoping soccer would finally become popular here.

Millions watch soccer, I've been to Rio many times and I suspect the city is not ready........

They said the stadium is not ready...the concrete hasn't had time to cure and it hasn't been tested yet??? The transit system won't be ready either...several men just died trying to complete it yesterday.

Plus there aren't enough hotel rooms...people are renting rooms in the slums at HIGH prices! (for a true local experience????)

yes, i have a number of friends and family members that are either headed down or already there. they have been planning this trip for quite a while.

lots of soccer/futbol fans in my family and in my circle of friends.

Oh no, nobody in their right mind would want to stay in the favelas. They are run by drug and crime lords.......even the police won't go there. I have not been following the news of the construction. They had plenty of time but corruption strikes again.

He went out and bought a whole bunch of World Cup gear last night.

My husband is a tennis addict, and also a huge fan of soccer and the World Cup. It will be interesting to see how he juggles his time between the two in the coming days.
