I would not use BioSpot for a cat or a dog. Google the horror stories of this product. Cheap is not better.

I usually use K9 Advantix II but the Bio Spot is a lot cheaper and I noticed it also works on tick nymphs and tick larvae. We are having a bad tick season, I've found a tick on two of my dogs in the last month. I hadn't started the spot on yet this year. Luckily we are in a low risk area for lyme disease but still.

Hi jaxs mom. Sorry, I haven't heard of this one. I use the K9 Advantix II for our Golden Retriever. We have a wooded area on the side of our property and with the tick situation being so bad this year, I'm not taking any chances, switching. I know it's an investment, but I believe it's worth the extra $$. I buy it online at 1-800-PetMeds.

Thanks JLF, I do like K9 Advantix II. I just thought the addition of killing tick nymphs and larvae would be an advantage. This is only our second summer in this area and I've never had this kind of tick problem except when we lived in a very wooded area. The savings would be nice too since I'm treating 3 dogs now.

1800petmeds sells the Bio Spot as do Drs Foster and Smith, Petsmart ect. I'm not sure about it's requirement for their applicator device though.

I used BioSpot a few years ago when we had a flea issue and it worked fine. There were reports at the time I used it that some animals had horrible allergic reactions to the preservative used in the BioSpot, so after consulting with my vet I had some Benadryl shampoo and pills on hand in case of an issue, but my dog and cat had absolutely no reaction to it at all and the flea problem went away and hasn't come back. The active ingredients are generally the same as in the name products so any reaction your pet is possibly going to have would come from the other ingredients and that would be an allergic reaction. Washing off the product and dosing with Benadryl should counteract any allergic reaction.

You have a good point regarding reactions. I've used Advantix II for a long time and know they don't react to it. That is always a chance you take when trying any new product.

Ok so I was on K9 Advantix 2 website, ( needed to double check about bathing my dog since they were treated a few days ago) and came across the life cycle of ticks which I didn't know.

http://www.bayerdvm.com/show.aspx/productdetail/k9-advantix-ii

Tick larvae and tick nymphs both feed on dogs, not just adults. And nymphs can transmit disease, not just adults. Now I'm back to wanting to use a product that kills and repels nymphs and larvae too, otherwise my dogs are still susceptible to bites and disease from them. Killing and repelling adults isn't enough. K9 Advantix 2 doesn't say it kills or repels all life stages of ticks, although it says it does for fleas.

On the other hand I'm still concerned about reactions from a product I haven't tried on my dogs.
