I get books from two different library systems. Both have summer reading programs for adults, but one offers prizes (mostly gift certificates for local businesses) and the other offers the same items as the children can earn (water bottle and T-shirt).

Of course, for me, reading is a reward in itself.

I just signed up for mine. All we have to do is read 3 books to be eligible for prizes. Last year my husband won a Books-a-Million gift card, but I have yet to win anything. Maybe this will be my year!

Lots of area restaurants are sponsors by donating gift cards, plus there are gift cards from other book retailers like Barnes & Noble and Amazon. If you're reading this summer, it's worth a look to see if your public library has some rewards.

Wow, wildcat fan, that sounds great. Our county library system has a horrible budget deficit and is about to close two of its six branches. I'm glad to know some systems are still thriving and have enough community support to offer prizes!

I work part-time in our local library (small rural community in West Michigan), and like the above poster, we are adjusting to budget cuts all over the board. We have a winter reading program (I ran it for the 1st time this past winter), but have never had a summer reading program for adults. To be honest, in our community, the majority of adults do not come in to check out books. Unfortunately, we have an extensive movie DVD section (both movies and TV series), and that is the most popular item. Patrons are allowed to check our 6 DVDs for a week for no charge (only new movies have a charge). That's what they come in for, not books. It's unfortunate, but that's the reality of it.

They do both adult and kids summer reading programs. I just wish they would be open longer on Saturdays in summer.

My public library offers a summer reading program for both children and adults. My children did it last year for a while. This is my frst summer doing it. I am also in the 52 book pick-up program. The idea is to read a book a week for the year of 2014.

Our libraries are open every day of the week and we have 6 libraries in the city. Every event/program I have ever participated in has been wonderful.

Our local library has done this for the past several years. The reporting is done online. joannecha, the draw at our library seems to be the adult and child computers. I feel "whatever it takes to get them through the door" and maybe, just maybe, sometime, they might pick up a book, a magazine or a newspaper! Lol
