Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

Hello my friends! Today's blessings are 75 degree weather! Guess what? Got two ripe strawberries this afternoon!! I gave one to Linus - soon we'll have more, can hardly wait! Just love strawberries and raspberries. After this I need to go pick some lettuce from the garden and some asparagus. That's all there is for now! Radishes are coming! It's been a very quiet day here today - no phone calls except a telemarketer who doesn't know how to obey the rules of the No call - I get them anyway. It doesn't work but I won't answer. The quietness of the day is comforting and you can feel close to Our Lord by the silence, like Mother Teresa says. And doing little things out of Love like Father's homily is the way to go! Let's all try to do that, okay? What are your blessings? Let's give God the credit where credit is due!! God bless you all - with healings, with whatever your needs be.

Be a patient person but, most of all, be patient with yourself. Lord, may

I be blessed with a calm spirit and diligence as I do my work today.

Meditation for the day:

Without God, no real victory is ever won. All the military victories

of great conquerors have passed into history. The world might be

better off without military conquerors. The real victories are won in

the spiritual realm. "He that conquers himself is greater than he who

conquers a city." The real victories are victories over sin and

temptation, leading to a victorious and abundant life. Therefore, we

can keep a brave and trusting heart. We can face all our difficulties

in the spirit of conquest. We can remember that where God is, there

is the true victory.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that the forces of evil in my life will flee before God's

presence. I pray that with God I will win the real victory over

myself.

Lord, thank you for this sink of dirty dishes; we have plenty of food

to eat.

Thank you for this pile of dirty, stinky laundry; we have plenty of

nice clothes to wear.

And I would like to thank you, Lord, for those unmade beds; they were

so warm and comfortable last night. I know that many have no bed.

My thanks to you, Lord, for this bathroom, complete with all the

splattered mirrors, soggy, grimy towels and dirty lavatory; they are

so convenient.

Thank you for this finger-smudged refrigerator that needs defrosting

so badly; It has served us faithfully for many years. It is full of

cold drinks and enough leftovers for two or three meals.

Thank you, Lord, for this oven that absolutely must be cleaned today.

It has baked so many things over the years.

The whole family is grateful for that tall grass that needs mowing,

the lawn that needs raking; we all enjoy the yard.

Thank you, Lord, even for that slamming screen door. My kids are

healthy and able to run and play.

Lord, the presence of all these chores awaiting me says You have

richly blessed my family. I shall do them cheerfully and I shall do

them gratefully.

Being Content

The Lord got so tired of a certain man's prayers that He appeared to him one

day and said: "I have decided to give you any three things you ask for.

After that I won't give you anything else."

Happily the man made his first petition at once. He asked that his wife

should die so that he could marry a younger woman. His petition was granted.

But when his friends gathered for the funeral, they began to recall all the

good qualities of his wife, and the man realized that he had made a terrible

mistake. So he asked the Lord to bring her back to life. He did

That left the man with only one petition left. He was determined not to make

a mistake this time, because he would have not chance to correct it. He

consulted wisely. Some of his friends told him to ask for immortality. But

others said: "What good is immortality if you don't have good health? And

of what use is good health, if you have no money? And of what use is money,

if you have no friends?"

Years passed, and he could not make up his mind what he should ask for: life

or health or power or love. Finally, he said to the Lord: "Please advise me

what to ask for."

The Lord laughed and said: "Ask to be contented no matter what life brings

you."

EYE OPENER

I saw him in the church building for the first time on Wednesday. He

was in his mid-70's, with thinning silver hair and a neat brown suit.

Many times in the past I had invited him to come. Several other

Christian friends had talked to him about the Lord and had tried to

share the good news with him.

He was a well-respected, honest man with so many characteristics a

Christian should have, but he had never put on Christ, nor entered the

doors of the church.

"Have you ever been to a church service in your life?" I had asked him

a few years ago. We had just finished a pleasant day of visiting and

talking.

He hesitated. Then with a bitter smile he told me of his childhood

experience some fifty years ago. He was one of many children in a

large impoverished family. His parents had struggled to provide food,

with little left for housing and clothing. When he was about ten, some

neighbors invited him to worship with them.

The Sunday School class had been very exciting! He had never heard

such songs and stories before!

He had never heard anyone read from the Bible! After class was over,

the teacher took him aside and said, "Son, please don't come again

dressed as you are now. We want to look our best when we come into

God's house."

He stood in his ragged, unpatched overalls. Then looking at his dirty

bare feet, he answered softly, "No, ma'am, I won't ever."

"And I never did," he said, abruptly ending our conversation. There

must have been other factors to have hardened him so, but this

experience formed a significant part of the bitterness in his heart.

I'm sure that Sunday School teacher meant well. But did she really

understand the love of Christ? Had she studied and accepted the

teachings found in the second chapter of James?

What if she had put her arms around the dirty, ragged little boy and

said, "Son, I am so glad you are here, and I hope you will come every

chance you get to hear more about Jesus."

I reflected on the awesome responsibility a teacher or pastor or a

parent has to welcome little ones in His name. How far reaching her

influence was!

I prayed that I might be ever open to the tenderness of a child's

heart,and that I might never fail to see beyond the appearance and

behavior of a child to the eternal possibilities within.

Yes, I saw him in the church house for the first time on Wednesday. As

I looked at that immaculately dressed old gentleman lying in his

casket,I thought of the little boy of long ago. I could almost hear

him say,"No, ma'am, I won't ever."

And I wept.

Just wanted to let you know that my DH lost his fight on Monday morning. Your prayers and encouragement have been a great comfort to me. Please continue as I think they are needed just as much as ever.

Good morning to Gloria and Bobbisue.

I tried logging in yesterday at some point to read/post but got a message that QVC was busy, something like that. Never did come back so I thought I'd give it a whirl this morning.

Gloria, how nice to have your own berries. Our strawberry season is over, blueberries will be available very soon. I like strawberries but that is far as it goes, not a fan of rasp or blueberries, YUCK! lol My husband loves both.

Bobbisue, I hope you are feeling better.

I've got some errands to do this morning but I am in no hurry, can't seem to get the get up and go. lol

I thank the Lord for his blessings, they're all good. You ladies are included in those blessings. I have few friends, in fact, I'd probably call them acquaintances more than a friend. Being a very private person, I tend to stick to myself or family. Life's experiences have taught me not to depend on others and, because of that, I do not trust. It is nice to come here to request prayers or just have fellowship with you ladies. I don't have to personally know you to care about you.

So, I wish you all a wonderful day. God bless and keep you.

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

The actual author of the Memorare is unknown. It has been traditionally attributed to the abbot St. Bernard of Clairvaux from the 12th century. This is possibly because it was championed by another Bernard, the French priest Claude Bernard, who used it extensively in his ministry to the poor and to prisoners (including some quite hardened criminals!) in the 17th century.

Claude Bernard credited reciting the Memorare with curing him of a serious illness. He had some 200,000 copies of the prayer printed up and distributed in leaflets in various languages during his lifetime. (This was no small feat in the days before desktop publishing, Kinko’s and the Internet!)

Church teaching holds that Mary is the Mother of the Church and our mother as well “in the order of grace” (that is to say, spiritually) as we read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 969).

Upon her death and assumption into heaven, “God chose her to be the treasurer, the administrator and the dispenser of all his graces, so that all his graces and gifts pass through her hands,” according to St. Louis De Montfort, the celebrated 18th century French priest best known as a champion of devotion to Mary.

Mary’s wonderful role in assisting in our salvation has been praised by many Saints and Church fathers alike over the centuries. St. Lawrence Justinian summed up the feelings of many of them when he once referred to the Blessed Mother as “the ladder of paradise, the gate of heaven, the most true mediatrix between God and man.”

Do you have a particular problem you feel you can’t share with our Creator? Or perhaps you think he’s too busy? He’s never too busy to hear a sincere request for His aid and guidance. (Indeed, he’s never too busy for any of us, period!) Still, we are always welcome to ask His mother to help us. In fact this delights our Lord!

As De Montfort once put it, by asking Mary to approach Him for us “we are practicing humility, something which always gladdens the heart of God!” (St. Francis de Sales once wrote in this regard that “God so loves humility that He instantly hastens to the soul in which he sees it.”)

Keep in mind again that when we pray to Mary we also pray through her to her Divine Son, Jesus! And she is happy to pray for us and to intercede with Him on our behalf. You’ve probably asked a friend or colleague to pray for you sometimes. Why not ask the Blessed Mother as well? After all, in the Hail Mary we ask for her to “pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.”

As long as we approach her with a sincere desire to do God’s will and to make amends for our sins, we can ask for her help with confidence. (And, after all, does it ever hurt to get on the good side of a loved one’s mother?)

When our Lord said to St. John when He was on the cross “Behold Thy Mother” (John 19:27) His mother became ours as well, as mentioned earlier! Don’t be afraid to ask our Blessed Mother for her assistance (or to show her your love!) by praying the Memorare, the Rosary, or many other fine prayers and devotions to her.
