Does Your Cat Have A Jungle Pouch?

Ours does, and we can't help but laugh at him when he runs ahead of us and that thing sways back and forth.

It's also called a primordial pouch, and has nothing to do with a cat being spayed or neutered, though that myth persists. Apparently, it's something that evolved in the wild to protect cats' sensitive underbellies. Some have one and some don't.

I thought it was cute when we adopted him as a youngster and, now that he's so much longer....so's that pouch! Interestingly, neither my husband nor I had ever had a cat with one before.

All of our cats have Jungle (primordial) pouch! We call it their "butter".

One of our male cats, an American Bobtail, has an EXTREME primordial pouch. When he runs down the hall, the "butter" swings back & forth -- to the point of making him to loose his balance --- so he has slow waaaaay down -- or he'll tip over! LOL!

See, I learn something new from this forum again! My Oscar definitely has one and I laugh as it sways back and forth when he runs ahead of me. I just thought he was fat, lol! (He's been on a diet and is looking good so I'm glad to know the reason for that pouch - thank you!)

Our Cookie has one and I love her soft fluffy belly and nuzzle it all the time.Wish mine was as cute,lol

Tiggi my Maine Coon doesn't have one, but Stinky does and Abigail is starting to get one now. I did think it was due to being spayed, as hers started shortly after her spay in February. I learned something new.

Mine does not have this. She is quite under weight [a rescue] But, it sounds cute. My kitty has soft and tender "Potato Paws"
