it is soooooo HOT here!!!

what is the weather like where you are???

it's 92° here right now but with the heat index it feels like 108°!!!

i have been getting some great deals on shrubs and plants/flowers for the yard at the smaller stores with garden centers - most of the the things are already half off and that usually does not happen until august! they don't want to spend the extra amount of time/money that it takes to keep things watered and alive and they are trying to get rid of it fast!

It would be helpful to know where you are. If it's Death Valley, we're not impressed but if you're in Vermont, we will be.

It has been unusually hot here in the Albuquerque area too; mid to high 90's most of the week but is cooler today and tomorrow.

It was 80 and humid. Expecting a thunderstorm. That's hot enough for me, but it will get up to 90 or more before long.

I do as well, just being flippant. While I love it here, I do not love this heat.

oh my goodness!!!! that is just too hot. is that before the heat index???? i like to watch "flipping vegas" and the temps that they talk about are so high all the time!

I'd like to ask some of you Arizona folks a question, if you don't mind.

Because of a new job, some of my family members relocated there from the north a few years ago and love it in AZ so much that they decided to stay permanently, and recently bought a lovely home. They've been asking me to join them, but in all honesty, the thought of all that heat freaks me out, because I've always been a cold weather person. I've lived in various places across the US, but have always been on the coast.

Lately, I've been wavering...

Can you please tell me what you love about AZ?

sabatini, We moved here from Oregon 19 years ago because of a job transfer. I didn't know if I could stand living in the desert. I have found the desert to have it's own beauty. The wildflowers,the sunsets and the cactus. Of course there is the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and the red rocks of Sedona. All beautiful spots. I still love Oregon and all the green but it's only about an hour and a half to get to northern Arizona to the cooler weather and forest.

The heat is hard to take but of course everything is air conditioned. If you are an outdoor person, you just have to do things early in the day. The hot months are usually May-September. The rest of the year has beautiful weather. We eat Thanksgiving dinner outside.

It's a big decision and it's not for everyone that's for sure.

Depends where your friends live. There is cold weather and snow in the north during winter - Flagstaff, Sedona, White Mountains. Phoenix and Tucson, very mild winters, though it does now in Tucson every few years.

Beautiful mountain ranges. From Tucson you can be in the pines at 9200+ ft. in 45 minutes. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tombstone, Biosphere, etc for the tourist attractions. The White Mountains, where you can live year round, for winter sports, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, etc.

The University of Arizona and the Arizona Wildcats (basketball and football). Go Cats! A lot of good restaurants, good shopping, a fairly short drive to San Diego or Mexico for the beach, although I no longer travel to Mexico. Friendly people!

Things to consider: Arizona economics are still behind much of the nation, we don't rank very high in education and be sure to check your job market before making a decision. I live in the Phoenix area because I have family here and nowhere else. My children and grandchildren are here. There are seasonal changes in Northern Arizona but they are also subject to forest fires. I don't mind the heat here. To me, its either heat or cold so I prefer heat. Arizona has mountains, lakes, desert so I think there is something for everyone.

The reason I retired to New Mexico was that it's just too darn hot in Arizona. New Mexico has an entirely different climate. Albuquerque is the same altitude as Denver and has four distinct seasons. We get a little snow most winters but not enough to inconvenience anyone. Summers are hot but rarely in the 100's; I find them quite bearable. Cost of living is less. I love it here.

I like the heat especially after this past winter we had. lol. But its not humid here yet in PA its in the 80s and pretty pleasant.

I was born & raised in AZ, but lived a big part of my adult life in the SF Bay Area. After 40 years in a very mild, moist climate at sea level, adjusting to the higher altitude (4600 ft.) and dry climate of the high desert of southeastern AZ was a bit challenging. We decided to leave CA and live out our retirement years in a less hectic environment here in my home state. We live down in the southeastern corner of Cochise County - VERY VERY different from the Phoenix area! We are about 80 miles southeast of Tucson. Tucson is much more temperate than areas west of it like Casa Grande, Chandler, Gilbert and Phoenix. Tucson is a beautiful city and has a lot to offer. We go there a couple times a month for shopping, dining and entertainment. Our small city (50K) has most everything we need, but not a Costco or the larger department stores. WHERE in Arizona you are thinking about moving to is a big deal. The state is diverse in people, culture, terrain, weather and philosophies. But it is all beautiful. I just prefer a more semi-rural environment and more temperate climate. Just an example...if it is 106 in Phoenix, it is probably (in normal times) 100 in Tucson and 95 or lower in Sierra Vista.
