Had to recently replace the power cord for my MacBook Pro. I believe it's getting close to 3 years old, but I don't plan on replacing it any time soon. I didn't even consider a power cord replacement other than Apple, even though it was $80.

Is is OK to replace it with a generic one that is compatible or should I get one that Samsung supports? I checked online reviews on the genric ones and they are very mixed. Any expert opinions here? If I have to type on my tablet or phone much longer, I might just lose my mind....LOL

I just don't think laptops last all that long. 4 years is pushing it. Why throw good money after bad when something else is probably going to go wrong down the line, like the battery? Or hard drive? Just my opinion....and experience with laptops, that is. And my sony was really really high priced and top of the line at the time I bought it. Was trash after 4 years. That's why I went with an Apple. I hope to have this at the very least 6 years. Hopefully more.

I never buy any cable/cord or connector that I can buy cheaper with the same specs as a brand name. Made wire and cable for almost 3 decades and if some of the specs rate the same the only difference might be the color and/or a name.

HDMI cables always come to mind when I read these things. You can pay $40 a foot at a name Electronic store or buy them on amazon and get 3 HDMI cables 6' long for under $15.

Won't say my opinion is ""expert"" but I will say I've been working with electronic wires/cables going back to some pretty old stuff.

I've seen outside cables burned if hit by lightning/seen bad wires burn that have much lower specs, but have never seen a connection ruined unless the wire or cable had to little resistance or possibly and difference in the thickness of the cable covering the wires.

As I said, specs being the same the only differences might be color, but if the wall thickness of the cable and the gauges are the same? If it happened with a generic it can happen to one with a big name, but I have never seen this in my years of working with electronics or my decades long job working with copper rod/copper gauge wires/tinned wires/twisted pairs/stranding 100's of pairs of wire into cables and then covering the cables with different types of plastic/metal coatings depending on if they were run under or above the ground.
