Vaccination Letter from Pediatrician's Office

We just got a letter from our pediatrician's office informing us that everyone had one year to get their kids caught up on vaccinations or they would be asked to leave. I applaud them for taking action considering the recent outbreaks in the area.

I think that is a good idea for the doctors to do this.

When my GD's started K and 2nd grade here in AZ, they were required to have vaccinations or they couldn't get enrolled. We found the 2nd graders vaccination forms from her school in CA, so she could use that, but the younger girl had no record, and she got all her shots in one day.

Don't know why parents refuse to get their children vaccinated.

I wonder why people grasp on to something like this and , no matter what facts are presented to them, they will not let it go. It boggles my mind. They just feel they are right and there is no force that will convince them differently. You see it here on this BB all the time.

I think that it is so devastating a pronouncement that they must have something, anything to blame it on. A family member refused the shots. His son still developed Autism. He got Chicken Pox. His dad did get Shingles because he had Chicken Pox as a child. .

You can still get Shingles even if you have the scheduled chickenpox vaccine. I got it and so did my DD when she was 18.

I don't agree with the letter. Of course the Dr. can have their own rules. I think it's a personal choice. Mine does have current school shots. I will not be forced to get the flu /HPV shot or any new shots.

I agree with the letter. It is a business and he has the right to have rules about vaccinations.

I have a question: so what makes these kids different from those who have other reasons for not getting vaccinations? I'm not talking from a "morality" or other standpoint...strictly from an epidemiological standpoint.

Is it that school officials think, "Well, if all of the other kids are vaccinated, one kid who isn't vaccinated won't cause an outbreak of major proportions, the disease will only stay with them and their immediate family members, so we'll let them slide through"?

A close family friend took her daughter to the doctors for an ear infection. A week later she got a call from the doctors office. She was told there was a child there in the office that was later diagnosed with chicken pox.

Her daughter was quarantined for two weeks. When the ear infection came back and she had to go to emergency she was seen outside the hospital. She couldn't leave the house for two weeks and she and mommy missed the family vacation.

This was on the peninsula in SF area

I would suppose it's that separation of church and state thing. Most likely it is the state who allows the exemption.

Wow. That sounds a little extreme. I never heard of such a thing.

I honestly didn't realize children could be enrolled in school with out being vaccinated. How does that work? When my daughter started Pre-K we had to show her records, have things changed?

I was just going to say the same thing - that I don't see how someone could NOT be up to date.

At our school they have to be up to date before they enroll. They can be exempt if they file paperwork that their children cannot have the vaccine or that they abstain for religious reasons.

You can get an exemption for religious or ""philosophical"" reasons. There is usually a form you have to sign explaining the reason.
