Hi readers. His new book is out now. Details below. A crime story, not his usual horror stuff. Can't wait to read this one.... Book is called MR. MERCEDES. Storyline as follows .... Finished MR. MERCEDES this evening. I enjoyed (not sure if that is the right word!) the story and thought it was "leaner" stylistically than some of his others. The synopsis was posted above by the OP and I must say, King does a good job at getting into the minds of his killer. Definitely has a touch of noir which is not surprising since the book is dedicated to James M. Cain.

It sounds really good but I'm so overloaded with new books right now. I'll never get to all of them, but I'll give it my best shot.

I may try it then. I really love Robert Crais for detective novels and his books are hard to beat because they are perfect but I'll try this one to see if its worth it. After the Under the Dome fiasco, I'm wary!

I started Mr. Mercedes last night. I'm on page 41 and will shortly go outside on my deck and read. I can see I'll be reading way into the middle of the night with this one!

Sunny, yes I did read it. I gave a quick review on Lainey's monthly thread. I enjoyed the book but it wasn't as good as I expected it to be. I think my expectations were too high after all the good reviews. The ending was a bit disappointing to me. I didn't think it was as good as 23/11/63 which I loved. I am happy though to read that this is going to be part of a series. I am new to Stephen King and enjoying his books that are not of the darker genre. I will definitely read his follow up books as I like his style and his character development. LM

hi Lilysmom, I don't think anything can be as well-written as 11/22/63. That book, in my opinion, was his very best, and that includes The Shining and The Stand, and every other book he's ever written. I loved 11/22/63 so much, after I read the last word, I went back to the beginning of the last chapter and read it again, and then I did it again! I then went back to page one, and wanted to read the whole book again, but sensibility prevailed and I didn't. But, I still want to read it again!

I think Mr. Mercedes ended the way it did because of the fact that there are two more books to come. I didn't know that when I read it. I only found out afterwards. I liked the ending the way it was written, but now that there's more coming, I can't wait!

Hi again Sunny. I laughed when I saw the correct title for 11/22/63. I am notorious for forgetting book titles. Yes, that was one of my favorite books of the year. I have a slightly more positive view of the book MR. MERCEDES now that I know it will be a series. Happy reading! LM
