Number of invites to bridal shower

We are hosting a bridal shower for my daughter's best friend, and I was caught off guard when my dd told me the list had 60 people on it! Is this typical? I know not all will come, but I really am surprised by the number of people they want invitations sent out to.

I think if they all on the wedding invitation list, they should be invited. If not it comes across as though she is just looking for gifts and not invited to the wedding. Just my opinion.

Sixty seems like a lot, to me, anyway. I'm not sure, but I thought that people who were very close to the BTB are invited. Usually one or more of the bride's close friends gives the shower. Well, times have changed, so.............

In my area if there are many friends and family to be invited to a shower, several friends will host several showers with different guests invited to each. Many people do not have the room to have 60 guests at their home to handle that number. This bride had a couples shower, a bridal tea, and the bridesmaids hosted a kitchen/ recipe shower. This worked out good and no one except for the immediate family was invited to all. Anyone invited to the showers should receive a wedding invitation..... IMO not to do so would be rude.

This is my experience also. Many brides have several smaller showers hosted by friends from different areas of their lives -- work friends, church friends, family connections, old school friends, etc. I've never attended a wedding shower with 60 people in attendance, and I certainly wouldn't want to host one. Too many people for my house -- and quite expensive if you rent a facility. I also agree with others that the shower guests should also be invited to the wedding. You shouldn't be expecting people to "shower you with gifts" if you don't care enough about them to invite them to your wedding and reception.

Today it seems that every female who is invited to the wedding gets a shower invite too. Personally I think it should just be for those who are close to the bride. Not everyone who is going to be invited to the wedding is a close relative or friend. Just my feelings on it.

The last two I have attended have been 50-60.
