I've lived in my house 15 years and have never seen a mosquito here. I sit outside most evenings and am not bothered. There is no water around my neighborhood. My mom, who lived about a mile from me on a golf course with sprinklers and ponds, apparently was bitten and died of West Nile Virus in 2003. There was a pond about 400 ft from the house where they were not aerating the water as they were supposed to be doing. Perfect breeding place for mosquitos and a health hazard.

These little bugs are HORRIBLE in our yard this year! The guy next door also has a man made pond and doesn't spray, which makes it even worse. Just going out onto the deck off the back porch is impossible without bringing them into the house. Does anyone have a remedy or suggestion how to keep these things at bay? I'm open to anything!! TIA.

I had a horrible mosquito problem last summer, but it didn't start until around June/July.... we live near a river so that didn't help, and we had lots of rain so then they came out. I couldn't be outside for only a few moments and would get eaten alive. I asked for advice about remedies, and the best thing I found aside from using our professional exterminator that comes to our house to treat for termites, is just a yard fogger. In fact, I have one and need to get a couple more and will spray the backyard soon to prevent them. They don't cost too much. I use the Cutter brand "Backyard Bug Control Outdoor Fogger" and it does kill mosquitoes. They are such nasty little buggers and can carry the West Nile virus, and can cause heart worm issues in our sweet furbabies. They aren't just about itchy bug bites. Depending on how severe your problem is, you might need a professional exterminator, but at least start with the fogger, it will help. Any stagnant or standing water is just a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

*typos*

Did they have a permit to install their pond? There are all sorts of laws regarding man made ponds.

A man in Wyoming had one built on his property. He got all the city, county and state permits and even had the state engineers design it, etc. Then the feds decided he couldn't have it and they are trying to fine him something like 75K a day.....

Oh how nice it is to have an acreage with no neighbors with ""ponds"" on their property. And since I spend my time in a glassed/screen in 4 season patio room? Even when I mow and take care of our land and trees this little bastxxxs don't seem to be a problem here at our place.
