Printer Cartridges

My printer is asking for new ink cartridges. Has anyone bought the ones that are refills? What about getting them on Ebay?

i buy all my toner cartridges on ebay. i was really nervous at first but they work fantastically. i have a laser printer. the savings are astronomical.

I go through a TON and I do mean a TON of ink.............I buy it from Amazon and save a TON.................................raven

Are you replacing an HP laser printer? I usually buy mine at Staples when they have a sale. About $70.00.

I know that Costco does the refills, but I haven't tried them. A friend who did, said she didn't get such good results..kept getting "error" messages.

With my last printer, I did buy some generic cartridges, which didn't work well. They failed soon after I installed them.

With my present printer, I'm only using the manufacturer's brand, and all is well.

Thanks everyone. The refills are so much cheaper but if they are going to annoy me the savings won't be worth it.

If you have a Costco membership, they refill them for a good price.

I only use black ink. My cartridge lasts me about 6 months.

before i found ebay for my toner cartridges (tn-450) it was actually more cost efficient to purchase a new printer. my toner cartridges go for $48.00 and that's on sale

i can get nearly 4 of them for the same price on ebay. each toner allows me to print up to 2600 pages.

I only use black ink. My cartridge lasts me about 6 months.

I do a lot of printing............A LOT of it...................and I print in color as well as black and white..........I've save a HUGE amount of money buying from Amazon..................raven

I use only "ink tanks" and have for many years now. If you are talking a cartridge with 3 colors in it? Different than what I use and that is why I only but Canon printers and only the models that come with a "tank system". My present MX892 all-in-one has a 5 tank system.

All I use after the originals run out are "generic inks". I just bought all 5 colors times 3, or 15 complete full tanks for $34 delivered to my door. I have yet to have a problem with any of them and I don't care about any printer warranty saying "warranty will be voided if-this-that and the other isn't followed". With the cost of printers that come with full ink tanks nowadays?

Heck I can buy a new printer for half of what some are paying for the old Ink Cartridge system types of printer ink.

I've bought mine from several online companies and I go with the one with the cheapest price at the time I am ready to buy. Not an issue with a printer or my last all-in-one using this generic ink. I bought new printers because of some extra features like e-printing/double sided printing which my older one did not have.

Bought this MX892 for $69 delivered and it had 5 full ink tanks.

I buy name brand from reputable places online (can't get my ink locally). I print photos to sell and exhibit and I need ti depend that my ink is what I think it is.

I just looked up my light magenta cartridge on Amazon -- same price as I pay through Office Depot unless I opt to purchase expired cartridges -- which I won't.

Before buying my new printer I went to Amazon and looked at the generic replacement inks to see which ones were well reviewed and low priced, then I found a printer to fit the ink. I just got five black cartridges and two each of cyan, magenta, and yellow for under $8. There are some generic inks that get horrible reviews and some printers that just won't accept generic ink, but if you can find a combination of a printer that doesn't mind generic ink, and well reviewed generic ink for a good price, then you can save a fortune. My new printer (an Epson XP 310) cost $59 at my local Walmart so even if there is a warranty issue the money I saved on ink after the first fill up will offset the cost of the printer. Ink costs are just absurd for name brand inks these days. If newspapers/magazines charged the same as printer companies do for ink then every newspaper/magazine would cost $50 or more per issue. The price they charge for ink is just absurd.

The printer I bought also has an aftermarket kit to convert it to a continuous ink supply system (CISS) where there are four large separate tanks that connect to the cartridges by a hose and then you only have to keep the large tanks filled and the bulk ink costs are very low compared to what you get in a cartridges.

I tried Walgreen's refill once ... didn't work.

What I need is a new printer. Mine is so old, it's from the dark ages, but it's small and compact; however cartridges cost more than a new printer. I don't like the size of the new printers ... takes up too much desk space.

I have had ours refilled at Office Max and have purchased new cartridges from eBay. We don't print that much. It just seems like they are putting less and less ink in the cartridges these days. I hear there are some cartridges that you pay more for but they contain more ink. We need new cartridges right now, so I am going to hunt eBay for them today.

i always buy generic replacement ink cartridges! i have never had a problem with any and my printer is over 12 years old. as long as it works i will keep it.

The refill cartridges should work fine, just not for very long. The problem is that manufacturer's cartridges are packed as tight as a NYC subway car in rush hour, so they contain a lot more ink/powder than the refills, which are usually loosely packed by some clerk in a CVS store or the like.
