I saw the thread last night about Wen clogging drains, but I was too tired to read it. I would suppose it was summarily deleted by TPTB.

So, is it true? I would imagine if it does, that would be a huge problem for product sales.

I use WEN, live in an old house with old plumbing, and my drains work fine. I chalk it up to urban myth, or perhaps those "WEN users" should not be flushing feminine products down the toilet.

I am not a Wen user, but my MIL was, and every time we turned around, she was having issues with her kitchen and bathroom drains. At the time, we had no idea it was from the product she was using on her hair. The people who live in her house now have had no plumbing issues.

On 5/24/2014 Usedtobeoxox said:
It clogged my drains my house was built in like 1940, but then so did baby wipes, so alot had to do with the age of the plumbing where you live

No offense, but my house was built before 1900... it has some updated plumbing... but you don't flush baby wipes, or tampax, or paper towels, or anything that isn't quickly degradable down your toilet. That is just asking for trouble. Of course it will clog your sewer pipes and drains. Have you ever had a sewer scope inspection on your home? It costs approx $300 and is priceless, not to mention a great movie watch with popcorn. In all seriousness, I was in the real estate industry and recommended it to all my clients in addition to the general home inspection. Lots of sewer pipes in older homes are made of clay and they break and crack and are victims of tree roots, so when you start trying to flush things through there that don't break down, you get backed up sewage pipes. Also, most owners aren't aware that if there is a problem with their sewage line on their property up to the point where it connects to the city/county main line, it is their responsibility to repair it, and that gets expensive!!!!

I've used WEN since it first came to QVC. I have no problem with my drains other than having to fish out a big glob of hair every now and then. I had to do that before WEN.

My bathroom sink gets far more gunk in it--toothpaste, soap etc--and no WEN goes there.

I am not a Wen user but I was a hair colorist for over 10 yrs and I don't see how Wen could clog your drains anymore than any other conditioner because there isn't any miracle ingredient in Wen that isn't in any other conditioner. I think the people who have had problems with it probably don't have the best plumbing.

I would pour some baking soda and vinegar down your drains every once in a while to help prevent any soap scum and conditioner build up.

WEN is really not that much thicker than conditioner. I use 8 pumps twice, but I have very thick hair and it's a few inches past my shoulders. Before WEN, I conditioner only washed my hair, so it's been many years since I've used regular shampoo. CO washing has been a curly hair method for many years.

I live near QVC and go to a salon/spa that has always had hosts as clients. Just the other day I noticed a sign about bringing in products for use. I asked about it. I was told it was to discourage clients from bringing Wen. When I asked if it was because this salon used a specific brand I was told yes and no. They found they needed to flush out their pipes frequently due to the Wen. Clients instructed they use numerous pumps, far more product than they would use.

The posts I've read about women losing hair when using WEN, I have to believe it clogs drains.

I found a drain cleaner recently that's specifically for hair clogs.

If you have a septic tank, you are not to flush tampons or baby wipes, etc. I remember my Dad having to dig up and clean the septic tank and he gave my sister and I a good scolding. It was a good lesson, both of us have septic tanks at our homes.
