There was a post in Moms Forum about a Wedding Situation.

Made me think that we all have crazy stories to tell about our weddings. I'll start.

My dear MIL didn't want to participate in the rehearsal dinner. She wanted the wedding to be a "surprise." She hadn't attended many formal weddings. So the night of the wedding, she arrives with her children and husband, and instead of being escorted in at the proper time, she proceeds into the church and sits about halfway from the back!

The usher came to me as we were lining up and said, "where are the groom's parents?" Someone pointed them out and he escorted them to the front. Very few people knew, and we kept it that way.

(We never had a cross word during my marriage, but I bit my tongue several times!)

Nothing crazy really happened at our wedding.

We had our reception at a beautiful restaurant. There were about 60 people there.

My first wedding we were all at the curch getting dressed and my father came in looking wonderful ... he started apologizing about forgetting his dress shoes and all he had to wear were his muddy work boots. I told him "No problem, daddy, just knock the heavy stuff off and it will be okay." LOL He was trying to "get" me, but i "GOT" him. Then when we left the church my MIL had given everyone oats to throw because she didn't want to pay for rice when she already had plenty of old oats and had no use for rice. Also, we had a very intimate, small wedding and discovered that everyone we didn't invite had been invited to my MIL's house for a surprise reception that we didn't have time to attend. We ran in, changed clothes, attempted to say hi to everyone and ran out the door. His mother was very angry, but it was her own fault for not listening to us in the first place. I got even when I sent him back to her a few years later. LOL

Preds! Those are great stories.

At my wedding it wasn't actually a crazy thing but the flower girl got sick during the service and her mom almost knocked over a lighted aisle candle trying to get to her.

It turned out okay. Poor kid.

This happened at one of my good friend's wedding. For her cake, she had fresh flowers with ribbon streamers floating down all over for the cake topper. Well, of course she had pillar candles on the cake table and, you guessed it, somehow the ribbon streamers caught on fire.

Several crazy things happened when I got married, and I've often thought I should have taken them as signs to call the whole thing off. We got married in the latter part of June and it was an especially hot month. Our house was stuffed with relatives, my dad had flown in some family from England and they were staying with us, the rest were staying in the hotel. The afternoon before the wedding, my favorite aunt from England (my mom's older sister) was helping her make some dish for the rehearsal dinner and she was peeling some boiled eggs. They had a very modest home and no such thing as a garbage disposal, so she was quite impressed with this gadget that seemed to gobble up anything. Well, my mom wasn't paying attention and my aunt put a bunch of egg shells down the garbage disposal....oops. Needless to say, it clogged the drain badly. We still needed to all get ready for the rehearsal and dinner afterwards, and there is my daddy who had experience in plumbing and heating under the sink taking the pipes apart and trying to clear the clog. He didn't have enough time to complete the job since it is rather important that the father of the bride attends the wedding rehearsal. This is all happening late on a Friday afternoon, so trying to get a plumber was difficult, so he decided he would just work on it when he got back home that night. I was stressed out that if he couldn't fix it I wouldn't be able to shower in the morning if he had to shut the water off, and I didn't rest well. My dad said he would take me to the hotel to sleep and get ready there in the morning, but I wanted to be around my family. The poor man stayed up most of the night working on that, with my cousin acting as his helper. Thankfully the wedding wasn't until late afternoon on Saturday.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the limo that arrived to pick up me and my bridesmaids had broken air conditioning on a day close to 100 degrees, so all these pretty girls that spent all this time doing their hair and makeup arrive at the church hot, wilted and "glowing". We all had to hurry and touch up before the ceremony. That should have been another big clue to me, then I find out that the air conditioning in the church either was not turned on, or wasn't working....but the church was a sauna, and all the poor guests, about 100 of them, were sitting there fanning themselves probably praying the ceremony would be short. It truly was the like the wedding from h3ll. Of course the same horrible limo took us to the hotel for the reception, so again, all hot and sweaty. At least the guests were in air conditioning and enjoying drinks and food, and the reception went great. The marriage only lasted a few years, and I remember waking up the next morning asking myself "What have I done?". If I had it to do over, I would have paid attention to all the crazy signs.

My fiancée and his sister handled all the details of my wedding and our honeymoon. I was "allowed" to buy my own wedding gown, which I had made at an Italian bridal shop and which was beautiful. But he suggested I carry a huge white Bible with an orchid on it for my bridal bouquet, which I also did. My parents never interfered in the wedding plans either, we all just did as we were told.

Part of what they arranged was to have a Rolls Royce from a stable in NYC come to pick me up rather than a regular limousine. It never showed up. Finally, after waiting for an hour and a half, my father drove me to the church in my unwashed Chevy convertible. People had been waiting all that time.

To add insult to injury, my fiancée's mother had arranged a "high nuptial mass" in her church (she was very active there). There were four priests on the altar, and full communion given out, so we spent another almost two hours in the church.

By the time we got to the reception, we had time enough to eat, but there was another reception waiting, so they had to ask us politely to leave. We got in about two dances, and there was minimal socialization, and we were out the door. I was so embarrassed and disappointed. This should have been an omen to me as to what my marriage was going to be like. It lasted eight years together, eleven before we were divorced.

My wedding was uneventful, but my participation in others' weddings has proved interesting. In my younger days I was booked as a wedding singer. My fee included a rehearsal with the accompanist. At one booking, the bride's aunt was playing the organ. The rehearsal went off without a hitch. But the day of the wedding the aunt attended a pre-event brunch and hit the champagne fountain a bit too often. At the wedding we aced "The Lord's Prayer", but the second selection didn't quite go as planned. While I sang "Evergreen", the tipsy aunt replayed "The Lord's Prayer".

I could see the horrified look on the bride's face but continued to sing the selection I had been booked to perform. After the ceremony, the bride apologized profusely and some of the attendees told me that they couldn't believe I stayed on key until the end of the song. I had performed "Evergreen" many times at many weddings. I gave the aunt the 'evil eye' after I received my fee. I doubt she even knew what she had done.

My brother's wedding, held in the mid-west in the middle of winter. Snow and lots of it. We arrived by train because my mom refused to fly. My dad arrived mid-rehearsal dinner, we were grateful that he was actually able to make it. He had been called out to another state for an investigation. We had his two dress uniforms. Because of the timing of the wedding/reception, he had to change from dress blues to formal wear. He wanted to wear a suit.

The morning of the wedding all the women in the bridal party and mothers were at the beauty salon getting our hair done. I'm sitting in the chair, wet hair, thinking the hairdresser was grabbing a chunk of hair to put in a roller. Instead, her hand appeared holding a pair of scissors. Apparently my future SIL thought I needed a haircut. I didn't but got one anyway because I couldn't stop the hairdresser in time. The new "do" was awful.

We all dressed in long velvet gowns, walking through the parking lot to the church, holding our satin shoes in one hand, the hem of the gown in the other, trudging through snow wearing boots. I wish someone had taken a photo of that! My brother, man that he is, was trying to wear his old sneakers with his tux. Dad gave him a shot of whiskey and the dress shoes.

Three hours between the wedding and reception. We all went out to eat at a small restaurant because we were starving....bride and groom included.

We decorated their rental car with shoe polish, etc. never realizing that car washes are few and far between in the dead of winter. They almost missed their plane. We saw them briefly at the airport while we were waiting to board our plane. SIL was not amused at our prank......

I had twin uncles who were pranksters (God rest them!) - during the reception, which was a sit-down dinner with dancing, a couple of my bridesmaids took off their shoes while having dinner - somehow my uncles found their shoes and hid them...so when the dancing started, the girls were barefoot.

Also, my ring bearer's sister got married the morning of my wedding (200 miles away) and barely made it to the church for mine. I was not happy when she chose her date!!!

Was married on December 16th.....the church was all decorated for Christmas. The soloist was just starting to sing the "Lord's Prayer"......and my DH and I were kneeling at the alter at the time......we heard this horrible sound......it was my cousin (one of the ushers).....he fainted and his head hit the pulpit and then he landed in the Christmas tree. Oh what a sound that was. The minister was standing in front of us and told us very quietly what happened and that all was ok.....under control....... Oh my, the poor soloist had to continue singing.
