eBay Hacked, Urges All Members to Change Passwords Immediately

eBay Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY) said beginning later today it will be asking eBay users to change their passwords because of a cyberattack that compromised a database containing encrypted passwords and other non-financial data. After conducting extensive tests on its networks, the company said it has no evidence of the compromise resulting in unauthorized activity for eBay users, and no evidence of any unauthorized access to financial or credit card information, which is stored separately in encrypted formats. However, changing passwords is a best practice and will help enhance security for eBay users.

When I first started selling on Ebay, I was told to set up a separate bank account JUST for Ebay. That way if it's hacked, they don't have direct access to your main account. That's what I do.

Cyberattackers have breached eBay's networks and compromised users' passwords and other "non-financial data," the online shopping website announced today (May 21). The passwords were "hashed" using one-way encryption, and financial data was stored separately from the compromised data, but all eBay users have nonetheless been advised to change their passwords immediately.

According to eBay, the data breach occurred between late February and early March and compromised users' names, hashed passwords, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth — more than enough to give an identity thief a head start.

it's May and they just decided to inform us!!!!

I saw that online this morning. I already changed my password upon reading it. I change my passwords regularly anyway. AND I write them down because I have been forgetting passwords lately because there are SO many to remember!
