LOL. Yes I did mean to type Zapf. Thanks.

And yes, it was hard to lose some of them (My Mom's). Bad as a fire is, it teaches you what is really important in life, and what isn't. It's the "sentimental stuff" that really gets to you. Your photos, birth certificates with tiny footprints on them, Mom's dolls, things like that. Most everything else is just stuff, and is replaceable, and a house can be built back...

After the fire was out, one of the fire fighters overheard me say "well, Mom's dolls are gone" and a few minutes later here comes a line of FF's, each carrying dolls. FF's are amazing people.

I have one of three that were part of a collection. Porcelain head, very old fashioned. Tell me about your collection if you do have one. Have a relative of sorts, and she had them all over her condo. Amazing.

No, but my late mother did. I've kept her childhood porcelain doll, because it's now about 80 years old, & Mom grieved for it so much once when she'd moved & thought it got lost.

The other dolls were impossible to sell on ebay, so off to ARC & Goodwill they went when Mom passed. She had the Di & Charles wedding dolls plus a flower girl, a Jackie Kennedy set with some outfits from the Kennedy Whitehouse era, Scarlett in the green dress she wore to the barbeque at 12 Oaks, Rhett & Scarlett from the scene where he carried her up that grand staircase, a Bob Hope doll, & a few others. I'm afraid she bought into the idea that those Franklin Mint collectibles would increase in value over time. Afraid not.

The lesson learned for anyone: collect things only because you enjoy them & not because you think you'll make money on them later.

I have some dolls I collected on Ebay c. 2001. After my father's long illness and lingering death, it was very painful to think of him.

I no longer had any of my childhood dolls but began to collect a few that I remembered that he had given me for Christmas. It helped me remember a lot of good memories about my childhood and to remember him as he was before his illness.

So. . .I have a painted hair Tiny Tears doll, a Madame Alexander Binny Bridesmaid doll, a Georgene Raggedy Ann that has the same style face as the one I had. The Raggedy Ann was my favorite doll. Just looking at these dolls on Ebay brought back a lot of memories.

I never had Ginny dolls myself, but I began to bond with them online, so I have a few of those, too. That is one cutie of a 7" doll! The outfits are amazing. They were all hand-sewn by ladies in a nearby Mass. town, where the company was located. I've forgotten which town--

PQfan, I love the Blythe dolls! Pink rotating eyes! One of the all time great doll designs, and fantastic 70s clothes. Way out of my league--the Japanese are now making replicas, but the originals are so expensive.

I never collected dolls but I used to collect jointed teddy bears. Love them and use them in my home décor.

Yes, I did collect dolls for the enjoyment of it. Many are Marie's early ones, the big ones and also the tiny ones, all porcelain faces. Then I have a Bob Mackie set, gorgeous, plus many others, many Christmas Barbies, also just many "Pink box" Barbies.

I have two cases, one in living room.another in the hall that you can see from there.

Downstairs I have a very big case with the Mackies etc. I actually quit because one can get just too many. DD will get them when I'm gone.

mm

Hi, Mama Mia, When I was in my doll collecting phase, I got a tiny Marie doll of a hippie with a peace sign around her neck. I think those MO dolls are very sweet and that one was very inexpensive.

Dolls will come back into fashion eventually. The pendulum swings back and forth.

ETA: And if they don't go back into fashion, I still have them to give to relatives. I have a huge family. My (very small) doll collection will go doll by doll, to nieces or my sister.

I used to buy several of the Christmas Barbies and would give an extra to a younger friend for her birthday.

I just don't need any more, LOL.

mm

mm

Hi, Mama Mia, Yes, I agree--I have some put away now to give later or to display in a home if I ever move into a larger one. But the vintage dolls I bought helped me to cope with my parents' loss and were a small amount of money well invested.

The Marie doll I have is tiny, tiny (5 or 6 inches) in jeans and a white top, long black hair, peace medallion--a little hippie doll. Very, very cute. I sold a number of my dolls on Ebay a while back, but that one I did not want to part with yet. She makes very pretty dolls, Marie does.
