1950s Crooner Jerry Vale has Died

Jerry Vale, (aka Genaro Louis Vitaliano) has passed away at the age of 83. Jerry's music was enjoyed by my parents and grandparents during the 1950s. I vaguely remember his hit song, "Al Di La" as it was popular for many years after its initial release.

The article I read said that Jerry's version of the Star Spangled Banner was played at sporting events for years, so I would think that many have heard it and may not have realized that it was Jerry singing.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, and a son and daughter.

RIP, Jerry.

Jerry Vale was never a superstar, but he had a fabulous voice. I remember very well his biggest hit, "Two Purple Shadows in the Snow." It was a typical forgettable 50s type song, but he made it special because of his wonderful voice. It was my beloved sister's favorite song for quite some time, so I will always remember it.

He certainly wasn't the type that tried too hard to stay in the public eye. He had a successful, 55-year marriage, and two children. Very un-Hollywood, IMO.

I loved his voice, he was a favorite of my parents so his music played in our home while growing up. RIP

Yes, I remember that my grandparents had an "album" of his while I was growing up.

He was Italian, he was from the East Coast...hey, it was a given they'd have his music!
