I didn't have a long engagement, and that worked out fine for me. A month after our wedding, DH got laid off from his job and we moved to Houston. Newly married, new state, new adventure, with plenty of jobs available.

Each couple is different. What works for one, won't for another.

Some people are engaged for a short time, and the marriage lasts forever.

Other times, not.

Just the opposite is true too.

Just because one couple is engaged for years and years, and years, is not guarantee that the marriage will last.

Also, the couple may have their reasons for having a long engagement. It could be for financial, or whatever.

There is no hard and fast "rule" on how long a couple should be engaged for.

We dated a few years and then our engagement was just under a year and a half, for a total of 4 years. We've been married only to each other and it's going on 36 yrs. It worked for us. That said, I've heard of people who married quickly and are just as committed and solid, so to each their own.
