Carlsbad, CA Wildfires

My sister-in-law called to tell us that there were wildfires there. Her friend is packing in case she has to leave.

Just wondering if anyone lives there or close and to make sure you are ok?

I talked to my sister-in-law and at this point the fire in Carlsbad is under control.

Carlsbad isn't a little beach town anymore. It goes many, many miles east now, which is where the fires are.

I just got an email from my friends in Carlsbad. Their area was told to be ready to evacuate when the word came, but so far they have been save. They said the air quality is horrible, and they are leaving on a cruise they booked way ahead. They are glad to get away from the smoke filled air, but they aren't sure if they will have a house when they return. Their friends are keeping close watch on their house and will notify them immediately if evacuation takes places in their neighborhood. Scary.

Evacuation orders were lifted for Carlsbad yesterday evening. As of early this AM the Poinsettia Fire is 85% contained. There is speculation that some of these fires may have been intentionally set.

I read that they have arrested a 17 and 19 year old pair of males. They are suspected of starting several of the fires going on in the south now. I just don't get the mentality. What do they do? Just get up in the morning and decide to destroy peoples homes and lives?

Although Carlsbad has 7 miles of coast, it is over 39 square miles now. And I can believe it, I had to go to a shopping center way out there. Without a map, I would have been lost.

I suppose they think that it's "cool" or "funny" to see all the commotion that they start.

I don't subscribe to that belief.

I just purchased property in San Marcos. From the ocean driving through Carlsbad to the border of SM is only 4 - 5 miles. I can see the ocean from SM 2 miles east (that's GPS driving east) from the border of Carlsbad. Even in some areas of SM you're not that far from the ocean.

The pair that were arrested were caught trying to start 2 brushfires adjacent to where the firefighters are stationed. Passersby saw them (they were on bicycles) and were able to put out the fires and call authorities. Law enforcement does not believe the pair were involved in the large fires and believe they are idiot copycats.

ETA Authorities speculate only one of the many fires was NOT intentional.

My friend lives in San Marcos near the Carlsbad border/ a few miles from Legoland. She didn't have to evacuate, but the fire was really close to the house. Now Pendlton is burning just south of me and the air quality is no bueno today. The fire crew have been amazing and only one death...

Oh no, I feel for you. The Las Pulgas and Tomahawk fires are really raging. Horrible. Our CA firefighters are incredible. Will keep my fingers crossed they contain the fires soon.

The closed exits are only about 7ish miles from my exit. But Pendleton is a huge chunk of land, so until I see fire....no worries. The kids are inside school all day because of poor air quality. I hope this is the end of fire season.

8 min ago - According to CBS8 the Bernardo fire was accidentally caused by a construction crew not arson.

Are they in for big trouble.

It was crazy hot yesterday (103). I'm afraid with it only being May that we could be in for a horrible year of wildfires

------ ~ Nice....big, big trouble. I think what really saved a lot of the neighborhoods was that all the houses are not squished together. There is a lot of green space...which I quess can be bad if a fire isn't contained fast enough. We looked at a house in Carlsbad..I loved the house and the area, but the neighborhood was house upon house upon house up and down the hillside...freaked me out!
