Hi, chessylady. I'm not in denial. I know it's real, it's staring us all in the face and has been for a long time.

The reason the facts came into such politicized challenge has everything to do with the money of politics and nothing to do with science, or concern for our environment, or compassion for the generations to follow us on this damaged planet.

There's a haunting Native American quote:

"Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten."

We are nearing critical mass when inaction regarding climate change will be irreversable. How did scientific evidence become politicized? What is more important than healing the planet? The vast majority of scientists believe that climate change is caused by human activities. Are you in denial?

It is tragic that this topic has been politicized. Continued denial of this most urgent issue is inadvisable. Some say it is already too late to reverse the course that we are on.

On 5/14/2014 chessylady said: Thank you, dooBdoo. I love the Native American quote. When will we wake up to what really matters?

You're welcome, chessylady.

I wish I knew the answer to your question. In past years I would mention to friends or family (the ones who are “deniers”) the odd weather patterns, the erratic temperatures leaping and plummeting, and they’d brush it off. Then I began noticing them beginning to say things like “it’s never been this [hot/dry/wet/windy/stormy/cold/snowy/icy/etc.]” or other comments noting a clear change. I experienced a couple of tornadoes, one a direct hit and the next one hitting the hill next to us, in an area that truly never had tornadoes before.

I think it’s dawning on people that the loud, strident deniers were wrong. Now that it’s here, a real and present danger, running up their energy usage, blowing away their homes, drying up their land, flooding their property… I think it’s dawning on people that it’s real science.

And truly the point isn’t to make someone feel bad because they were wrong or misled. To me, the point isn’t about shaming people. The point is to get educated and do something while… if… we can. We’re all in this together. If that phrase were ever true, it certainly is in this instance.
