I don't know if a thread is posted about this but they are looking for people on several flights.....from overseas to Boston to Orlando and maybe Atlanta? Not for sure exactly but it has flu like symptoms........this can be a deadly disease and the person was on flight May 1....the same day I was but hopefully my plane did not have any passengers that had been exposed......be safe in your flight travels....I would wear disposal gloves and no touch my face.

Just the facts mam. From the CDC website

On May 2, 2014, the first U.S. case of MERS was confirmed in a traveler from Saudi Arabia to the U.S. The traveler is considered to be fully recovered and has been released from the hospital. Public health officials have contacted healthcare workers, family members, and travelers who had close contact with the patient. At this time, none of these contacts has had evidence of being infected with MERS-CoV.

On May 11, 2014, a second U.S. imported case of MERS was confirmed in a traveler who also came to the U.S. from Saudi Arabia. This patient is currently hospitalized and doing well. People who had close contact with this patient are being contacted. The two U.S. cases are not linked.

I can only find info about two cases in the States, one in Florida and one in Indiana. Furthermore, the virus does NOT transmit easily from one person to another. So, at this point in time I am not worried about this becoming an epidemic, but it has caused over 100 deaths globally since it was first discovered in 2012.

CNN just had a piece on this story. The two hospital workers who they thought had contracted the disease from the patient have been tested and they are negative. The doctor they interviewed said this virus is very hard to catch, there has to be very close and continuous contact.

All ERs have been alerted and are taking precautions. I don't think this is something that is going to become an epidemic.

Ford is correct. They said the most likely victims would be for example a caretaker of someone infected where they have prolonged contact over days and contact with bodily fluids. Although they have to check that no one contracted it on the plane they said the likelihood is very small.
