Fantasy Home Shopping Network

It seems that many of us are less than happy with the hosts, the products, the vendors and just about everything else about our favorite shopping network.

If you could create your very own "fantasy" home shopping network, who would you pick as hosts, what items would you sell, and what would you do to make it a success?

I'd change a lot, but I'd keep their customer service as it is. I find them to be the best!

I'd also have promotions, real sales and clearance items, older models in all shapes and sizes for clothing and makeup demonstrations. I'd definitely keep the cost of shipping down by combining a day's worth of purchases and drastically discounting the total cost. And, of course, lots of FREE shipping on selected items.

I'd keep some of the show hosts who I think are good, and also get some new ones, also in different age groups to cater to all demographics. I'd also beg Kathy Levine and Steve Bryant to come back

There's so much more...what would you like to do with your fantasy network?

The first thing I'd do is bring back Polish Stoneware

They don't make things visually appealing here. When they did Polish Stoneware presentations they always showed a beautifully set table. I liked that, it was inspiring. They could do something like that for many of their shows.

The hosts could say something intelligent about what they were presenting, more than a "stripes are trending for summer." Just my opinion, but I think they'd sell more clothes if they showed how to put things together. I know, they try, but it's usually only one liners. And show accessories that would enhance it.

One more thing... I'd have an updated website, not the mess they have. Too many times I've gone to order online and it's down. They lose money, they need to wake up.

Get young people with ideas to spruce up their webpage. I see a header like "New Tignanello" and it's comprised of bags they've been pushing for maybe six weeks already. Another thing that's not visually appealing.

Bring back some of the unique items they used to carry and stop selling stuff I can find elsewhere for less. Offer free shipping to customers once they spend a certain amount of purchasers whether it takes two months or six months to reach that spending level. Start giving real,measurements on clothing when a item is presented Instead of making me try to figure out these stupid click here measurements. More models that represent the opposite ends,of the size spectrum (petite's & Plus). Models that represent the average woman height of 5 ft 6 and not 5 ft 9 or 10. Hosts that don't use silly words that they make up and who can prounce words properly. Hosts that don't spend their time dancing, singing and twirling around.

I like some of the things they Q used to do, Gold Shoes, Silver every week with Jane, games, interesting sets, like on the Kirks Folly,....I'll think of more.

I would like to see clothing models who fit body types not just body sizing....for example...what looks great on a pear shaped women may not look great on an apple shaped woman or vice versa regardless of their size.

I want to see petites, regulars and talls in everything instead of Qvc's ridiculous assumption that we all can wear the same thing. You notice they don't sell many things with bust darts. Who would it fit?? Also, I would like to see more varied shipping options.

Such a good thought-provoking question, sunala!

1. Scrap the "toGather" project. I find it both juvenile and senseless. Put the time, effort and money elsewhere.

2. Revamp the on-line website. The still shots of product leave much to be desired. When I cannot touch and feel something, the very least I need is a good visual. That simply does not happen here. I would suggest artistic layout much like Anthropologie with "come to life" models like Saks.

3. Free shipping--need I say more?

4. It is okay to save money by having encore presentations. I doubt anybody really watches QVC 24/7 and the other shopping channels do it.

5. Term limits for hosts. In the workplace, it is necessary to change--whatever our career paths might be. An example would be constantly learning new technology. If a host cannot evolve with the times--sort of reinventing themselves so we don't know their shtick by heart, then perhaps it is time to step back and do some off-camera work.

Whew! Ok, that is just my "for starters" list.

I know they do it, but have they ever really admitted to it? I know I've received items with lipstick stains, etc. Yuk.

Here's the obvious answer. Not all items sold on Qvc are reordered; only a few extremely popular items within the Denim & Co line, Louis dell Olio line and some others. Plus when that happens there are new colors added to the mix but not necessarily a restocking of existing colors.

But as we all know stock "mysteriously" does come back and most customers don't care to question it when it's their size or color that has come back; they just order. Whether it's a pair of pants, shoes, earrings or a handbag I personally have received customer returns for all of the above. It is the official policy of Qvc to NOT re-sell customer returns as brand new. That's what I have been told as recently as 2 weeks ago by a member of their management.

I recently returned an Isaac Mizrahi Bridgehampton handbag that had a defective seam sewn incorrectly and it never hit the as-is dept but it did get replaced as brand new. How do I know? The item has been in Qvc's database for about 1-1/2 years and the color choice I bought was the last one leaving only 1 color left. Approximately two weeks after I sent it back that color repopulated. It never hit as-is and the item certainly was not reordered. In fact when I read the reviews another customer who had ordered before me, mentioned that she returned her bag because of a badly sewn seam and I'm sure it is the same bag.

Even when you purchase something shown on tv for the first time like on a Fashion Day, there is still a chance of getting a customer return as Qvc sells advanced orders from those customers who still have access to The Insider. That too has happened to me.

Excellent thread! A few things come to mind right away:

1) Copy Amazon's "Prime" shipping program where you pay one flat fee and then just about everything you order in the coming year is covered. Or I'd institute a program based on frequency/amount ordered, so people who order more are rewarded with reduced or free shipping after reaching a certain threshold.

2) Really make sizing consistent among product lines and not tend to be so much on the larger side (e.g., a QVC large is more like a standard x-large).

3) Revamp "Fashionably Early" and rotate hosts or something. Personally, I don't like the way it is now. I'd do some research to find out what people want which I would assume would be to get out relevant product details and not bother with so much of the chit chat and inside jokes.
