It seems as if anything I've tried for a head cold does virtually nothing. Maybe I've not tried the right stuff. Does anything work to unplug a nose, stop nose dripping, sneezing, etc.?

I'm not the one sick....yet.

I think you can only try to make yourself feel as comfy as you can and let it rein its course ... there's a saying something like if you treat a cold it lasts a week and if you don't it last 7 days.

I got a couple colds very close together recently, which is unusual for me, so I thought maybe I all of sudden developed some allergies - with the pollen vortex and all lol. Anyway...I bought some generic allergy medicine, and it really worked for the sneezing and runny nose. I also couldn't live without Sudafed when I'm really miserable.

I just had a bad cold or virus 2 or 3 weeks ago. The only thing that helped me was Afrin Nasal Spray( I used the pump mist moisturizing kind).

Saline nasal spray and Mucinix. That's what a NP at my clinic told me and it works. Since it's spring have you considered the possibility of an allergy? I get cold symptoms every spring but I start on the OTC Allegra and it disappears.

Some good recs here.

I have had something for almost 2 weeks, I thought it was a cold or allergies ... but now I think it is the dang flu! I feel like I've been hit by a truck!

Could not have lived without my "SinuCleanse".

It's a squeeze bottle type and you use saline solution. 4 or 5 times on each side. Kind of along the line of a netipot. I think I found it at drugstoredotcom or amazon several years ago.

Thanks everyone. It's my DH. This came on all of a sudden. Started with a horrible sore throat and now a head cold. It's definitely not allergies.

I'm quite sure I'll catch it from him.

Just wondered because I've sure never found anything that helped me to feel even remotely better. It just has to run its course.

Thank you ShowMe. I probably should not let it go much longer... you are right. I'll see what the weekend brings.

LipstickDiva, mine was very sudden too, with a sore throat. I was fine and then woke up one day all congested. The following day I was down for the count. I've had it in the head and chest. DH hasn't got it. He's been on 2 week vacation and we planned to go to visit FIL in OH. He went to Ohio without me. Hope your hubby feels better soon.

If I were you, I would get to the drugstore stat and buy some zinc lozenges(if you don't already have some in your arsenal of OTC drugs). Should you start feeling the slightest sign of catching his cold, begin taking immediately to ward it off!

I heard something that went like this several months ago: You can go to the Dr. and cure your cold in seven days, or you can treat it yourself at home and cure it in a week.

IMO, colds just have to run their course. I love Nyquil. If I can at least sleep well at night, the miseries throughout the day don't seem as bad.

Umcka cold care. If you take it at the very start of a cold it eases the symptoms and duration of the cold immensely.

You can get it at health food stores or Amazon. But you need to take it at the very first sign of a cold......and continue for 2 days afterward. This stuff is a miracle drug.

I WISH my nose would run when I have a head cold ..... I end up all stopped up like someone poured cement into my nasal passages.

I take a cold medicine AND use nasal spray to open up my nasal passages. What else can you do if you can't BREATHE?
