Barry Diller, husband of Diane Von Furstenburg, once owned QVC. Then he bought HSN.

They are partially co-owned by a cable company, I think.

In order to get good placement on cable channels, they give a percentage of their profits to the cable company. QVC is channel 10; HSN is 95. Shop HQ recently moved down to 17...they give a higher % of profits to the cable provider.

Liberty is a cable company. They probably traded channel placement for stock re: HSN. Time Warner gets a percentage of sales - and the shopping channels in turn place a certain amount of paid advertising on the cable systems (those :30 promos we all see on Lifetime, Bravo, etc.)

There would be no shopping channels if there were no cable channels they can barter/lease.
