Do You Enjoy Opening "Teaser" Threads?

I, personally, find it a little annoying to open a thread and it's about a "so called" celebrity ... or it's an all out feud among posters.

The ""feud"" ones are the ones that annoy me. I may respond thinking it's about something else and discover that ""I just stepped in it."" LOL Then I back out to clean myself off.

Tabby: It depends - sometimes you can almost figure out what the topic is going to be.

Thread titles can be a contentious topic around here; too little info is not enough for some; for some, too much info or how it is worded can cause trouble too.

You can't win sometimes. lol

Hi .... yes, I know. I've been home sick for a few days and have had time to just read the forums. It used to be such an enjoyable place to just relax and get your mind off your troubles.

No. And I've posted against them more than once. I also don't like threads with a title and then a link or ones that ask for opinions when the person asking doesn't state theirs in the beginning.

I don't like teaser titles, don't like links that don't tell us where they go or what they're about either. If it just says something like "HERE" I don't think we should click on it. jmho

Absolutely agree! I'll never click those. Just wish people would put the actual web address.

Sometimes they're teasers because the thread title would be too long otherwise. I sometimes open them just out of curiosity.

The only time I don't care for them is when they're a private communication between two posters and they're nearly always very cryptic so that only the two posters can understand what the subject is about. To me, that's a waste of Viewpoint resources. Just email the person, for cryin out loud.

Not really. The point of a thread title is to outline what the thread is about. I don't know why that's hard to understand by some.

I see so many like 'have you ever tried...' and open them to find it is about something I have no interest in. Had they put what it was about I would have known whether or not I wanted to look. Consequently, I tend to open VERY few of these.

I don't like them either. Usually I don't open them. I'm also not fond of the ones that start ""am I the only one"" .. Yup in the billions of people in the word you are ""the only one"".

I particularly dislike them when posters try to circumvent the board standards so they can post about something controversial. Like all the ""I love *pick a state*"" threads.

Or when people try to restart a deleted thread with the same teaser tactic. They pick a word or phrase from the deleted thread to get it going all over again.

The same posters do this over and over again.

The standards say we aren't supposed to post email addresses.

LOL Preds! Some days around here you have to put your Wellies on before you start treading around. Good thing most of that stuff washes off easy.

I'm not talking about shout-out threads so much, as many of them are harmless. I'm talking about something to the effect of what Emma just wrote in her reply. Let's say a controversial thread was just poofed, and some instigator starts a new thread with a cryptic message to her friend that says something like, "I guess they just couldn't handle the truth!"

Those type of threads are designed to slam posters with differing opinions as well as an attempt to get the controversial discussion going once again.
