I can remember when what every media reporter desired was to 'get the scoop' on an important news story. It indicated that the reporter was more thorough and efficient than other reporters at discovering the facts of a story and getting it out in the media. When I hear/read a media outlet comment that a story that their reporter 'got the scoop' on isn't reported on in other outlets, I wonder if the value of the 'scoop' no longer exists. Is it now more valued for all outlets to report the same stories at the same time?

Everything today is "out there" almost instantly.

If a reporter wants to delve more deeply into a story, it can take months or years to get to the crux of the story. This is the "stuff" that leads to Nobel prizes.
