I don't buy the soulmate stuff. I love my husband to pieces but would never use that term.

I don't believe in soulmates either.

But I think the "perfect" (and I use that word loosely) person for you might change over time. So we could have a number of those over a lifetime, depending on where we are in our life.

This is exactly how I feel. I don't believe there is only one person in the whole world for any of us, there are a multitude of people who could be our perfect friend, mate etc., it's just whether or not you will meet up with one of those people.

And as I get older, I see more than ever that people (including ourselves) do change, and it is likely those we are in some kind of relationship with will too. We may not always change together and walk the same path forever.

Very, very true!

That's one reason why getting married too young can be a problem. People change SO much from their 20's to their 30's. Maybe more than any other time.

And, a good reason why married couples have to make sure to grow together as they age, otherwise, they'll grow apart.

I have loved, been loved, am in love but only 1 of them was/is my soulmate. I never once used the term on any of the others.

there was a fairly recent thread on this same subject.

i think the answers were pretty much split three ways.....no such thing as a soulmate, yes you can have more than one, and no there can be only one.

(my answer on that thread was yes, you can have more than one)

To me this can be accomplished with a partner over years of shared history if one is lucky and works at it.

People are individuals...no two people can get along forever and agree with everything. In fact, that would be pretty boring, IMO.

That's fine and good, straykatz, as long as no one is bottling up resentment over time. Not saying that's happening in yours but just in general.

Same here, except for the "am in love" part. Let me qualify the "in love" part - I'm still in love with my soulmate even though he's been gone for almost 14 years. There was no love like him before and has not been anyone even close since.

I absolutely believe. Not everyone finds that connection, however. I was 42 when I found mine.

BTW, soulmate doesn't mean boring and it doesn't mean perfection.
