Just do not understand this

On the Today Show today... they were parading curvy girls in swimsuits and saying it was to EMBRACE YOUR CURVES. Yet, they made remarks about how this suit or that look was slimming or made them look thinner... all throughout the segment. If you are embracing your curves, why would you need a suit to make you look slim??? I think that is a contradiction and they need to either say that they are just plus size and loving it.. leave the idea that the suits make you look thinner off the plate.

QVC does this with there plus models... They have a size 1x model and and the host is commenting how slim they look?? Why do they have to look slim?? They are plus size for gosh sakes!

Yes, embrace your curves, but what's wrong with wanting to look your best?

When they are saying to love yourself as you are, or embracing your curves, it is implying that you are at your best and you accept yourself as you are. Are you saying that your best is LOOKING THINNER and not having everything hanging out? That is what I am reading into your statement. I do see society as embracing slimness.... I think it is a contradiction, though, to even have a parade of plus models if the entire show is to try make them LOOK THINNER. Can't they just say how great they look and leave the word thin off?

For the record.....unflattering is unflattering no matter what your size....even a skinny person can look /gasp ""fat"" if they were the wrong style of clothing.....is it wrong for a plus size person to want to look their best?

I wish they would use the word "flattering" more than saying "makes you look thinner." Not everyone (of any size) wants to look thinner, but everyone wants to wear flattering clothes.

What I don't understand is this cutesy PC way of referring to heavier women as curvy. Curvy? There are many curvy women who are a size 4. Is saying one is larger so insulting?

I think ""embracing your curves"" in the context of enticing people to buy swimsuits just means heavy ladies shouldn't feel uncomfortable putting on a suit when going to the beach or pool.

I know many overweight women who wear shorts and tees and coverups because they haven't ""embraced their curves"" enough to be seen in a bathing suit.

I don't particularly like how I look but I like myself- curves included. I told someone a long time ago, you don't like how I look then keep on walking. I embrace life, not curves. I try to dress where I'll look presentable & flattering. I know that clothing doesn't make those curves look thinner but I try my darndest to flatter up.
