Malaysia Flight 370.......

Heard on the news earlier this evening that they told the families of the ones that were on board this flight that they may as well go home now. Believe they are just about to give up on finding the plane.

That will be hard for all of them to do......The pain they have been going through has had to have been the most horrible thing to go through.

I don't for one minute believe that anyone will give up trying to find the plane or black box.

After all, it took 2 years or so to find the French plane.

Maybe not, but do believe they are getting close to where they aren't reporting as much and are just about done with that part of this incident......

You giving up on the theory that it might have landed somewhere and we may see a repainted version of it when we least expect it?

I'm not been convinced by anyone or anything that it didn't land somewhere. Look how many years Osama was in Pak. before it was done in. Wouldn't put any thing past this country and seems like they get a coupe bill($$$$)from us every year.

They didn't say no one was looking for the plane any more. They just aren't going to pay for the hotel rooms for the families indefinitely.

They said they'll probably give up the air searches but will continue searching with the submersible indefinitely. I imagine Malaysia is getting tired of paying those hotel bills.

kachina.....I feel that is their responsibility, as the airlines is owned by Malaysia I believe.....these people have a right to know what is going on there on a day to day basis....I know I would want to know.

Yes, that is what they said. I am now wondering how many other countries are going to continue the submersible searches......that is very expensive too.

There is just so much that is unknown......

I have also asked the same question Blackbird Raven did.....why was it altered ?????

Well, there comes a time when people , though they will personally keep hoping the plane did land and they are alive, have to get back to their own lives and start rebuilding without that loved one. A friend of ours was widowed last summer - the day after her DH's funeral she said to me that she finally understands what the saying TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE really meant. At some point these families have to start the rest of their lives.And it is past time for that to happen, IMO.

I don't think they will give up. They kept searching for the French plane. And I don't buy the its hidden to use as an attack someplace. Evidence and common sense leads to a crash.

It did not take two years to find Air France Flight 447. The wreckage and partial recovery was done within five days. It did take two years to recover the black boxes. There are still about fifty bodies down there that they are not able to recover.

I hate that this happened..... It's just all around sad. If my kid or husband would have been on that plane, I think I would live the rest of my life in limbo.

I think the plane crashed. They will continue to look for it but it may take a long time (years) to find the plane. This is all so sad and I feel for the families of the people on that plane.

I'm not a big fan of the way this whole investigation has been handled. Unless someone's gotten really good, high definition satellite images of those debris fields seen earlier in the search that they aren't telling us about, that showed the debris to be non-crash related, then those fields of debris were likely our best way to quickly determine the fate of the plane. There were French and Chinese satellite images showing hundreds of items of various sizes floating around about where they would be expected to be if the plane crashed near where the pings were heard. As soon as they heard the pings though they immediately dropped any look at those items and moved all of the resources to finding the source of the pings.

They're now saying they won't be looking for those floating items as they'd have sunk by now. Really? Things float for a couple of weeks and then they just decide to sink? I'd love to know how they came to the conclusion that things would only float for a certain amount of time and then sink. Some things are likely to get waterlogged or slowly lose whatever buoyancy is keeping them afloat, but not everything. At least some of what was floating back when the original satellite images were revealed should still be floating and analysis of the ocean currents there should give those looking for the debris a pretty good idea of where to look. Instead of looking for that stuff which we know was there, they continue to poke around, more or less blindly, in the hope of stumbling upon the wreckage.

If the plane crashed into the ocean then there would be a large debris field. Lots and lots of stuff in a plane floats. If you really want to prove the plane went down then that's what they should be looking for and where they should be looking. They won't find the plane there, but they can assure the family members that the plane truly did crash. That's largely what the families want right now. You won't find the black boxes in the debris field but you should find items consistent with a plane crash. The fact that they're not even looking for that type of debris kind of raises a few red flags.

Are they giving any credence to what they think they've spotted in the Bay of Bengali?

That is really strange that a scan of the area 3 days prior to the plane going missing there was nothing there and now there is a definite image of something that looks like it could be an airliner.

I don't blame Malaysia for telling the families that they are closing the centers, and to go home. After all, just how long were they expected to keep the families there? Six months? Eight months? A year or more? What if they never find the plane?

Oh, and I don't buy in to any of the conspiracy theories either.

Poor analogy. Your neighbor buried her husband. Without a body or a confirmation of death, I can't blame anyone for having a hard time moving on. Unless you're in there shoes you have no idea how difficult it must be for them.

I don't know what to believe, in all honesty.

The airlines cannot house the families forever. The plane may never be found.
