I don't know what's up with that. My font looks the same (I think) and I do paras. Maybe I'll check later tonight to make sure it looks that way when I see it on my desk top.

Thanks!! Its a "mini"- it says 32 GB w/ retina display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth....Can you tell I am excited!!!???? What?! no "owners manual"????

Yes, it is annoying here. The thing is I received a Mac lap pad as a gift last month, but the IPad is so convenient and fun to use, I almost never turn the lap pad on.

Congrats! You don't need a manual. That's how easy it is to use. But, if needed, you can download the manual using the iBooks app on the iPad. It's free.

There is a digital manual, but I can never remember how to access it. Most of the learning process is just hands on. You can take classes at an Apple store, if you like. There are also good tips posted on this board, in the electronics section.

Yes, apps. Once you get it turned on and walk through the set up process, you will see the home screen. (Like a desktop). You will see a bunch of pre loaded "icons" which are called apps. One of them is called iBooks. Tap your finger on it to open it. That's where you will go to download books from the bookstore. One of the books is the free manual I referred to. Just search iPad manual in the iBooks app.
