Do You Still Have Local Candy Shops? What Are Your Favorites?

Like almost all of our local stationery stores, most of ours have gone the way of the dinosaur. I was remembering our candy shops, mostly for the chocolates, this Easter.

Fanny Farmer was a very popular store, with branches (they called them "studios") at most malls/shopping centers. The company folded about 10 years ago, but I still miss them this time of year, especially for their buttercream eggs. Before today's downsizing, it was a whole "egg" lol--not half an egg with the bottom shaved off. They also had the best cream-filled candies: vanilla and their famous chocolate buttercreams.

Kaiser's was another local shop, configured like an old-fashioned candy store.

We still have Stever's and Andy's Candies and, when we take the scenic route to visit DH's relatives near Buffalo, we always stop at Oliver's.

There's one independent candy store in the city where my son lives. Otherwise we have Fran's Chocolates and numerous See's.

The last candy shop closed earlier this year. It was run and owned by a local lady who made delicious fudge. I wish it was still in business. Now I mail-order from Phenomenal Fudge in Vermont.

I buy their fudge all the time, as they can often be found a local craft fairs. I have also ordered it from their website. In fact, I have about four containers in my freezer right now. I am never without the stuff, LOL.

Yes we do have several in the area. I don't want to name them but their candy is far superior to any of the name brands even the high end ones.

We do still have local candy shops. They've always been popular at the Jersey shore.

We have lots of local chocolatiers and truffle makers.

I order from Sees sometimes. They have a kiosk in the malls at Christmas too.

My uncle works for a large chocolate company as a sales Ambassador - he is 91 years old! He was their VP of Sales for many years and has retired twice...but they keep on asking him to work on special accounts.

His company supplies a lot of the local chocolate shops, so I know where to get the best candy.

One of the best is Landies Candies, which now sells some items at the Q. They are also the in-house Wegmans brand - under the label of Swiss chocolates.

I wish they would sell sponge candy on QVC. They make some of the best in Buffalo and it's just unusual enough that I think it would be a hit in areas that never heard of it!

We are lucky to still have many candy shops in our tri state area. Sarris and Red Stone are probably the most notable. The others are so local no one would recognize the names.
