I thankfully have never had one, but usually it is a precursor towards having more and for sure you need to see a doctor about this. Some TIA's can lead to strokes, so don't be foolish and not check this out. Peace of mind is invaluable!

I disregarded my tia years ago and it led to a stroke. I was lucky I was only left with some right side weakness. Well, my tia started with a bad headache followed by some numbness and a feeling of extreme fatigue. You may not have had a tia but just the fact you are thinking about it means you should see your doctor.

Three years go I was at home and went to move my hand which felt like it had fallen asleep, well in was unable go raid my hand off the arm of the chair, then my face began to go numb, I started talking to myself and heard slurring. I was alone at the time but managed to call 911, by the time I concluded the call, things had resolved. Regardless also called my husband at work. He came home just as the E.M.T. arrived. After a two day hospital stay and numerous tests, it was decided I suffered Tia. Since then I had one other slight incident but it was just numbness in my fingers. My neurologist prescribed lipitor and plavix as well as omega369 and a full strength aspirin a day.

My mother was found face down in her apartment foyer. I was called, was there within 15 minutes. I called for the ambulance.

1. smile- uneven

2. lift arms above the head-can't raise both arms evenly

3. repeat a sentence- can't, words are slurred

She had recovered within a couple of hours, was kept for 24 hour observation. Tests were run. TIA was the diagnosis. Plavix in addition to her regular baby aspirin as a preventive to future strokes.

Don't mess around if someone may be having one. We think mom had the real thing sometime during the night in the hospital.

I concur with the suggestion to not wait and go to the emergency room immediately, the medical staff would at least observe and monitor your vitals. In my case the doctors believed a piece of plaque broke off and went through, unlike a stroke, it kept moving. High blood pressure is serious. Please take the symptoms seriously.

I suggest reading online information on what symptoms might be a stroke happening or one about to happen. If in doubt it is better to err on the side of caution when you are talking about the brain and/or the heart being damaged.

I have never had a stroke but have had 2 heart attacks. With the 2nd heart attack I knew I was going to have one before it actually completely blocked my right coronary artery. Recognized I didn't feel quite right and moved as quickly as I could under the circumstances to get into my house and call 911.

My wife had a stroke in late December and fortunately we didn't wait around for acute symptoms before going to the ER. It was a mild stroke and one that effected only the left side of her body. Her shoulder/arm/hands/fingers/feet and toes. She is still working to regain total strength in her last 3 fingers of her left hand.

She spent 10 days in the hospital with 8 of them in the wing of the hospital that is In-patient Stroke Therapy. She had many hours of different types of therapy over those 8 days. Occupational/Physical and Speech Therapy. After her hospital release I took her to therapy 3 times a week and each day was a 3 hour session, 1 hour with each type of therapy. This was for 14 weeks and she could not drive a motor vehicle for 3 months after her stroke.

Silver Lotus, to you from me get your self to the hospital immediately and get checked out. From experience I want to tell you it is no picnic taking care of a person who didn't think it was necessary to go to the hospital when they thought this was happening to them. In stead they waited until it turned into a major stroke and left the person completely disabled ( no speech, no use of their right side of their body). Do you have any idea what it like to live with some one who can not tell you what they want to eat or drink or what is hurting them because their speech is gone.
