Ranch for Sale

Shirley McLaine is selling her 7,000 acre ranch at Abiquiu, NM. That's the place where Georgia O'Keefe lived and Robert Lee Morris used to talk about his place there. It's about an hour North of Santa Fe.

There is what looks like a beautiful 6,000 sq. ft. adobe house. There is a large reservoir in the area and beautiful desert terrain with mountain and magnificent cliff views.

I saw her on Oprah once and they showed that ranch. It is gorgeous. I lived in NM for a short time and it was a beautiful place. You are right, her place is magnificent!

New Mexico is a beautiful state, I lived there for a year and a half back in the 80's and was sorry to leave.

As water become more scarce, I wouldn't live in NM or any other dry arid state.

I wondered why she decided to sell that magnificent place so I googled around and found this.

Ms. MacLaine is selling because she wants to spend more time in Santa Fe, where she purchased a house six years ago. "I want to go to the movies, good restaurants," she said. "I really need to be closer, or I would tend to become a complete recluse out there."

Apparently Ms. MacLaine doesn't consider it to be an issue as the property has two swimming pools. I don't either...we all conserve water and are doing fine. She will be 80 years old next week; most older people want to be closer to medical facilities and there are none in that area. She already owns a home in Santa Fe too.

I lived in Az growing up, but I wish our family had moved to New Mexico instead.

It's a beautiful state, rich in culture and scenery. There is something special.there that you get once you've been there. It really is The Land of Enchantment.

Her ranch would be such a peaceful place to live.

The Northern part of the state is very mountainous. Both Santa Fe and Albuquerque have mountain ranges right outside of the city limits.

New Mexico...I've only been there once and I still have dreams about it. I was in Albuquerque and in Santa Fe, and it was just so beautiful. The air is so clean and the people are so nice. And the food is fabulous.

That's nice to know. Perhaps I'll visit one day, right now I'm considering a move to either Oregon or Idaho.

When my dad retired, he lived in Phoenix in the winter and Santa Fe in the summers, where it was cooler.

After he retired from banking, he was an investment counselor. He had clients who bought second homes in Santa Fe (one was Steven Spielberg's first wife) and that convinced him to invest there too.

Don't let them kid you! New Mexico is a DESERT! We lived in Albuquerque for nine years, and believe me, the state is mostly brown!! Even the mountain flora isn't really that green, but has a rather dusty appearance. We really disliked it, and were very happy to leave when we finally did. However, if you are a desert fan, go for it!!

I now live in the beautiful, REALLY GREEN Northwest, where I belong & love every minute of it.
