I have a 6 year old female Papillon/Mini Dachshund mix weighing 7 lbs. She is a rescue, and I've had her 4 years. Her previous foster family had 4 larger dogs and 4 active kids under 10 years old, which completely overwhelmed my dog who is very shy and quiet. She never barks -- just likes to sleep and be cuddled all day. She doesn't mind being around another dog who is calm and quiet, but an active dog terrifies her, even if the other dog is just a small puppy who wants to play. We would like to adopt a second rescue dog, but what breed would be best? Another very small dog? Should we get a male? I've heard that mixing 2 females is a no-no. I'd appreciate any thoughts from you dog experts.
