Sport Bars for Dogs?

I just saw a coupon for sports energy bars for dogs. I get that dogs love and eat treats. But this idea appears to be Purina's way to sell a product to people who think of their dogs as human. At $2.99 a bar the dog energy bar is more expensive than many human energy bars. Do you think dogs need energy bars and if so, how much would you be willing to spend for them?

Awww heck Chessielady. When my little guy saw the title he was ready to belly up to the bar and order a draft.

I won't be buying any energy bars for him though, he doesn't need any help being energetic and if he ever does need a boost I have a cat that is more than willing to help get him moving.

I, too, misread the title. Animal Humane of New Mexico sponsors a bar behavior class for canines. It's a one-hour tutorial for your dog. The cost is $15 and includes a pint of beer for the dog owner.

It's held on the final Saturday of each month at a local microbrewery.

I'm completely serious. And I like the idea of including your dog when you want to meet up with other dog parents for a beer.

As for an energy bar for my dog, I say nay. He's an Australian kelpie and doesn't need it.

Those products have been available for dogs for years (energy bars, sports drinks etc.). Dogs that participate to sports, i.e. agility, dock diving flyball, as well as those with active owners that may run or hike are the market. Not sure why Purina is now marketing them and offering coupons, other than to convince people their dog needs them.
