I used to have one from Verizon and we loved it for travel. You can use it in the car as you're driving.(not the drive but the passenger). It's very cool. We had unlimited data. We gave it up because we finally got cable internet where we live so I didn't need it anymore. I used it as our primary internet before that. My DH still has one through work so we use his if we need it.

We went to the home show today and ended up purchasing My Fi from Verizon so we can take our wifi on the road with us. Does anyone have this ? Advantages? dis advantages? It is only going to cost us $10/month because we will drop our currant verizon internet at $40/mo and just use this portable one - at least that is our plan.

I have this mi-fi unit as I do not have DSL or cable in my area. You can connect up to 5 devices at a time with this. I really love it, but Verizon is just getting so over-priced so I'm going to look into alternatives once my contract is up. I also need a portable internet connection, so I would have to find something similar if I were to switch companies.

Q spirit - those of us who do not own an ipad or iphone have to have a wifi hotspot to get on the internet with our phone or tablet. Well, you can get on using the browser but it is costly to do it that way. This device is a portable wifi - it can access it via a satellite so , anywhere that has a verizon signal for a cell phone - this device will work. You simply get it connected to your device - say a tablet - and it will do whatever you could previously do using a router and internet service. We have only had it today , but so far we are pleased with how fast it is and the being portable is great - we took it to the beach and still had 5 bars despite that is usually a low signal area here.(no cell towers out in the ocean). This will be great for folks like us who spend half the year living in one place and the other half in another plus the twice yearly traveling days.Plus, if you are in a hotel you can get on your computer without exposing all your information through the hotels system where it could be stolen. So we are giving this a try and see if we like it. You really can't complain about $50/month plus we have 30 days to decide if we want to keep it or d/c the service. The device itself was FREE (usually $80) but at this show they had a crate of them that had banged up boxes - even though the device was all tucked in to styrofoam and that was all intact - they were giving those away free if you bought the service.

Fi so it may be what you have. I've had it for about 4 years because I live in the middle of nowhere. We've been told that cable will probably never make it out here. At first it was much faster than dial up but still slow. They are always updating cell towers so it does well now. Keep in mind that how fast it is and how strong a signal will always be based on how near or far away you are from the closest cell tower.

Advantages - its portable and I'm guessing if it is truly a Jet Pack, up to 5 electronics can hook up to it at once and it can be used a lot of places.

Disadvantages - if you go over your data allowance its not cheap - but as someone said, you should be receiving notifications that you are getting close to maxing out your data.
