Black box pulse signal detected

News stations are reporting the Malaysian flight black box signal has been detected in the southern Indian Ocean. I hope it's not a false alarm this time.

CNN is saying that a signal of a frequency of 37.5kHZ has been detected.

No one has said definitively, and with 100% certainty, that it is the black box.

I'll wait for conformation first, before I get too excited.

We've had false hopes before.

I hope that it's true, too, but I'm just waiting for 100% conformation before I get too excited.

We've been down this road before with stuff found in the ocean, only to find out that it was fishing garbage.

I'm not on the bandwagon yet, supposedly the Chinese are detecting a frequency that may be the aircraft's black box. They don't have much time before the sound stops emitting.

I think they have until the end of this weekend. Sending out a little prayer to the universe. Time for the families of those passengers to have some kind of closure (if there is such a thing).

I am thinking the same thing. I think it's also important to.find out, if possible, what happened exactly. If it was solely a mechanical issue, then measures can be taken to address that for the future.

That's the operative word: "MAY".

We've been through this before. "Something" was seen in the waters.

Turns out, it had NOTHING to do with the missing plane.

So this "sound" that they heard MAY, or may NOT have anything to do with the missing plane.

I am not going to get my hopes up until it has been 100% confirmed that it is the black box.

This was in my e-mail just now.

"A Chinese air force plane involved in the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane spotted a number of floating objects in the search area Saturday, Chinese state news agency Xinhua said.

It was not clear whether these objects were near where Xinhua reported that a pulse signal sent by so-called black boxes was detected.

Xinhua said China's Haixun 01 patrol ship picked up the signal around 25 degrees south latitude and 101 degrees east longitude. "It is yet to be established whether it is related to the missing jet," it said.

"It's not the prime search area but it's not out of the question that this could possibly be from the black box," said David Gallo, a CNN analyst with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

The signal reported -- 37.5 kHz -- "is the standard beacon frequency" for the plane's cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder, said Anish Patel, president of pinger manufacturer Dukane Seacom.

Experts have cautioned that no confirmation has been made that the signal was linked to the missing plane."
