After all the yrs. of wanting an Irish sweater.......

After all the years of wanting an Irish sweater, I (just this week) sent back the TSV Irish sweater I had ordered.

I appreciate the design and story behind it.

But when I tried it on I kept thinking 99 dollars for this sweater? Also I thought it looked frumpy on me, and the sleeves were too long and had to be turned under. (They looked worse turned up IMO).

I must have tried it on 10X before deciding. My husband even said are you sure you want to send this back? (We have only sent maybe 4 or 5? things back in all the years we shopped on QVC, and we have bought a lot of different products).

Oh well. It has mostly good reviews so I'm glad other people like it.

Same thing happened to me. I tried it on several times also.Really wanted to love it, but just looked kind of "frumpy" like you said.

I know what you mean. I actually have two of them. The first one I bought several years ago when I first started watching the Q and then I bought last year's TSV in the varigated pinks. I can't seem to find a good weather season to wear them. When it's really cold here in Wisconsin it's always too warm inside and the biting cold goes right through the sweater outside. Maybe when we go back to northern California it will make a good winter coat?

I've always longed for one, and this year I bought the coat length one with the big buttons. It's the one that came in sort of candy apple pink. I've always been afraid of the wool, but this one doesn't seem to bother me at all. My plan just now is to have it lined and wear it as a coat. I'm thrilled to have gotten it, and I'm sure that my wild Irish grandma is smiling when she sees me wearing it. Sorry yours didn't work out, Shorty.

I've looked frumpy in every Irish sweater I've tried too. It makes me look chunky. No shape at all. Ha!

I also had the same problems with the Irish sweaters looking frumpy.

This year, I finally found one that worked. Check out A231313, it also has 46 5 star reviews.

It runs a bit large so I sized down.

Irish sweaters are great on days where it is cool (not freezing) and damp and you plan to be outdoors most of the time

They really aren't meant to be fashion statements, but more for warmth and comfort. I bought a few years ago and they just became items that my cats loved to sleep on, as none of the areas I have ever lived in really worked well for an Irish sweater.

Perhaps they only work in areas that have the same type of climate that Ireland has...

I have one of the coat sweaters that I bought when I think the Irish days just began. It has pilled horribly. I really liked it but now I won't wear it in public.

I did the same thing, thought it would be so nice to have one of those Irish sweaters. But it was so oversized and chunky, and in my part of the country it would be worn about twice a year, so it went back. Also always worry about moths eating holes in it. But I do enjoy the presentations very much.

I also have looked at these Irish sweaters for years and always wanted one, but never saw one that was just right for me. This year I FINALLY found one I thought I would like. It's Item No. A251983. I purchased it and I absolutely LOVE it. It doesn't make me look large, it's not frumpy -- it's just beautiful and really, really soft. I got it in the Azalea Pink and I couldn't be happier with it.

I love the Irish sweaters and purchase at least one per year. I don't consider them to be fashion sweaters, so I guess some of them could be considered frumpy, but you can dress them up and make them look less frumpy. I love to wear mine with skinny jeans and high boots and a nice t-shirt or mock turtleneck underneath.

I just wanted to mention to you that you shouldn't give up though on all Irish sweaters because they vary in quality. Hand knit Aran sweaters are knit usually by women at home as a part time job and they are the best quality. They are often made to be less boxy and perfect for off-setting a woman's figure. I have one from years ago when I went to Ireland and it never pills nor does it look boxy. I usually wear it in place of a coat in Spring and Summer.

I have several. My favorite is one I bought last year. It is empire styled and has, I believe three buttons. I am in California and have worn it as a coat. I hope they continue to make it but would love it with a full length sleeve.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "frumpy" is. All of the models and hosts looked wonderful in all of the sweaters. I do have one from years ago, it's not form fitted or hugging the body. But it's not meant to.

I love the sweaters too. But have tried on similar in the stores and I look awful in them. A shame. The same is true for me for the Basso coats.
