p.s. I've been using Unscented Arm and Hammer Cat Litter which includes baking soda. (For my cat). It is very 'fresh' smelling without added fragrances. I'm guessing that it would be ideal for closets. If you have room fill a new kitty litter pan with the (above mentioned) litter and place in the bottom of your closet. The secret is using UNSCENTED so your clothing won't smell like regular scented kitty litter!

I moved into a new place and have a wonderfully large walk-in closet. My hampers are at the far end. They are the collapsible kind that do not have lids. The closet just doesn't smell as fresh as I would like it to especially as the hampers get full. I live alone so it takes a while to do a full load of laundry, so the clothes & towels are in there at least a week. What would you recommend for an air freshener/deodorizer?

Thanks, ladies. I'll look into these. In the meantime I bought a sachet at the grocery store and it has helped tremendously. Not so much into the perfumey scents, but prefer a fresh, clean scent.

Two of the best odor absorbers are charcoal briquets and the cat litter with baking soda. I have several containers of charcoal briquets hidden throughout my house to absorb cooking odors, musty basement odors, etc. My husband used to smoke inside the house, and the charcoal helped absorb smoking odors as well.

I have several empty coffee cans filled with charcoal briquettes. I cover the top with tulle netting, just in case an item of clothing falls on it. To prevent clothing from getting the charcoal on it. I place them in corners of closets. Seem to work quite well. Also, if you like the aroma of cloves, you can make sachets out of netting/tulle filled with whole cloves and thumb tack to closet walls or hang from hangers. Just cut out circles of tulle/netting and place the cloves in the center, gather up and rubber band into a pouch. Add a ribbon to tie around and make a bowtie.

p.s. Whole cloves are a lot less expensive when you buy them in the Mexican or International section of supermarkets. Often in dollar stores, too. They usually are hanging on the aisle in cellophane packages.

p.s. If you have the space somewhere, even the garage, outside, etc., could you hang your wet towels on a wooden (or other) drying rack? Until washing day. I have a wooden drying rack in a tub that isn't often used, and I hang wet towels there for a couple of days. But, I also occasionally dry them in the garage when the tub is being used. Doing this prevents musty, moldy towels and the chance of mold growing in the hamper. Just a thought, anyway............p.s. You might want to sprinkle baking soda in your hamper, too. Won't hurt clothing.

Went to Michael's and purchased tulle in my fave color. This week I'm doing a little grocery shopping and will pick up whole cloves and should have my closet quite fragrant buy week's end.

***

I used to leave empty coffee cans on a shelf above the litter box in the utility room when I was fostering my DD's cats while she was in college. Sure made a diff.

Glad you will try the whole cloves! (Natural, and no chemicals, too!) No need to buy the expensive ones.....As I said before, find the least expensive, most likely in the Mexican/International aisle, hanging in cellophane bags. Lots of good luck and pleasant aroma!
