Little female black cat that I rescued from my neighborhood.

I tried to find her a good home, since I have quite a few cats in my herd now. When I couldn't find any takers, I just decided to keep her.

All of my cats have "K" names, so I named her Kinzee Kitkat. I had her in a kennel in my living room, but a couple of weeks ago, I let her out. I kept her litter box by the kennel and she uses that litter box. She stays on the back of the couch, close to the kennel, or under the couch.

But she is doing well with my other cats. There is even grooming going on and playing with some of my younger cats. I think Kinzee is not quite a year old. I have a small, black male I rescued from some neighbors that were going to take him to the shelter that is about two years old. His name is Kindred Spirit and they look very simiilar, except Kinzee has white on her neck. Kinzee and Kindred are becoming buds.

She lets me pet her and purrs and rolls on her back. However, any quick movement or noise and she is under the couch! She also won't come to me yet, but in time, I believe that will change.

Thanks for all the support and encouragement I received. Some of you had a crystal ball and predicted she had already found her forever home with me. You were right!

How wonderful for both of you!

My 5 big boy kitties were all strays that wandered up to my house in the woods. I've had more than that, but some have left me, one after 20 years.

All have their own quirks and most took a while to adjust to human contact, but once they did, they were fine. Although any quick movement or noise (like your kitty) will spook them.

One winter, I had two little kitties come around in the dead of winter (brothers I believe) and I kept saying, "they must belong to someone." They did. Me.

I love black cats although I don't have any right now.

Enjoy your sweet girl -- she is lucky.

Ivenjay, that is a wonderful piece of news, with blessings coming to you, for sure~ I can tell you that ..-why-.. there were no takers for the little black female cat, is because 1st -she's a female..."no one wants to go to the trouble in having her spayed (putting any money out) for her"- "secondly no one wants -USUALLY- a black cat /female or male". --* I found that out when I was looking for our missing Cream at the SPCA. Almost every cage was occupied with a black cat. I would have adopted one, but at the time, I was on a mission to find our 11 year old tabby black & white. ~HAVE TO GO BACK, NOW.~ I was speaking to a lady today about the mutitudes of abandoned cats everywhere. You have saved one other little life that has no voice, from doom. I am still searching (hope is still present) for our missing Cream. In the meantime, there is another adult cat who looks exactly like our black & white tabby, except for: the forehead- it has more white. I have learned either he/she is an abandoned cat from about 6 weeks ago or a drop off. Also, I have found out that his leg is injure, badly ; s/he is limping. probably from either a cat fight, someone kicking her or being hit by a car? ---- I know s/he has to be in pain. HOW CAN ANYONE THAT IS ``knowing of a stray`` AND DOES NOT ATTEMP TO HELP, EVEN IF THAT PERSON could (HIRE) SOMEONE TO SPAY/NEUTER TO NOT LET S/HE just go off? HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT!?? I BELIEVE THAT this little one is living under the PATIO shed of a lady's across the lane from us. IT IS SO COLD AND THE OTHER WILD ANIMALS WILL OR CAN ATTEMPT TO ATTACK then when thay wander around. Apparently she (elderly lady) can NOT capture him- having ( Parkinson's, also), so that leaves me to hurridly buy a gentle trap. S/he (CAT) is fending for herself with 2 others (males) that this lady is feeding, but they eat all the food leaving s/he without much LEFT, unless [they] leave and she puts out more extra food for her alone. I PROVIDE THE FOOF AND TREAT+ CAT MILK. I would come to believe that she may be semi-feral or JUST AFRAID, but I can do THIS! I enjoyed your story so much //> wanted you to know that. you are so sensitive in caring FOR having the love to adopt Kinzee, along with the other one (Kindred Spirt) 2 years ago. Once in a while I read of someone devoted to take on something that seems impossible and succeed. I have heard of the MOST lame excuses:* can't be caught or {THEY} have no money, which I never buy, since they are buying for SELF. You will be be blessed, trust me you will be...................... _Naes

Bless your heart for what you have done.

I rescued a small kitten as well 17 years ago. She has taught me a lot about herself and I've learned things about me as well. She is still a bit wild but it's okay with us. We named her Pepper as we didn't know if she was male or female at first. She is officially a member of the family and is always a consideration.

Thanks, everyone! I know black cats (and dogs) are the most euthanized color at shelters. Five of my herd (counting Kinzee) are black and all rescues from the street. She is my only black female cat, though. I love black cats! (Ok, love every color)

Kinzee is spayed, I also got all of her shots and had her tested for disease and worms. So there would have been no cost to adopting her, I just had to find a good home. I think the economy is still bad and some people can't afford pets. They are expensive.

Not an easy sale - good luck on your abandoned cat. I am so glad you noticed her and can help!I hope you will be able to find Cream. I can't imagine. I have helped a friend look for a cat in cold, windy weather, putting up flyers, knocking on doors, etc. We always hoped someone found her and adopted her. No knowing is very difficult.

Everyone here has the biggest hearts and would and have done the same as me! We are all push overs for those furry little babies!

Ivenjay, that's wonderful that you took in this sweet black kitty! We've got one now too and also a Lynx point... It's so sad that black kitties ( and black dogs ) are always the last ones to get adopted because of that stupid old saying about how they're bad luck! Well, our lil black Bailey is the best kitty we've ever had and we've had many over the years! If you're on Facebook there's a big site called Black Cats Are Good Luck and is an awesome site!

I absolutely agree with you, Ivenjay- to some degree, in reference to so many people {{can NOT afford a pet}}, with the economy, et cetra. What I was referring to as in adopting, YES... it is wonderful, as you have told us, in adopting Kinzee. __What makes me so very angry is when people just LEAVE, maybe as in a move, or knowing about [THEM];;;;;; the cat(s) have to fend for themselves. The least someone could do, if the owner can no longer afford `their pet`, go all the way and find s/he a home, by taking the innocent pet (especially if it is an indoor- ONLY) to a very qualified no kill shelter; interview that facilitity or put an ad in the paper explaining the situation. ____ I JUST DO NOT SOAK UP THE LAME EXCUSES THAT ANYONE AUTOMATICALLY CAN'T TAKE CARE or TRY 'TO' find a good home. There are, as you have mentioned -here- so many sensitive caregivers who are the most lovable people sharing stories of adopting ............some one else's pet because they no longer can take care. ___I have offered on this forum, with attempts to help with the cost, or offer sugggestions in capturing a lost pet..cat or dog/ feral cat. I am so appreciative of your kind words in OUR finding "the mystery gone missing 11 year old Cream, who was very much loved. ___I have been in the process in doing a gentle trap of this limping ( I suppose semi-feral) cat to take take to the vet, also making a 2nd trip to the SPCA for one or two of the black cats that I remembered looking at me through the glass showcase. ___As tufgirl said: it's an old tale of black cats, may be dogs,also...being bad luck. I thought, we as a civilized society, surely I would hope to believe we are not that back woodsy with such stupid myths. For anyone reading this, "do take the extra effort in helping one cat/dog to be in a good home before your needs comes FIRST! Yes, first! _Naes

On 3/26/2014 lvenjay said:

Ivenjay, just seeing this and wanted to say how wonderful of you to adopt Kinzee. Love the name and the spelling! My sister always tries to adopt a black cat or dog or find homes for them. Another group that gets overlooked a lot is the plain, striped cats and kittens. The brown, short-haired ones in particular aren't chosen because people want a "pretty" cat. I can understand that, but it hurts my heart to see the plain tabbies, especially those without any white markings, passed over and left behind. Orange ones stand a slightly better chance, but the solid brown tabbies are pretty much doomed. It makes me so sad. Thank you so very much for all you do for animals.

SILVER LINING: I didn't know about the solid browns, nor the the 'PLAIN' striped cats being not chosen.THAT EXACTLY THE TWO NEW ONE WHO HAVE APPEARED LATELY. i think THAT -maybe- THE GRAY STRIPED WHO WAS HORRIBLY AFRAID OF ME IS GETTING MOR COMFORTABLE WITH MY VOICE WHEN I FEED (HIM)-?- EACH NIGHT. HE WAITS FOR ME AT THE LOWER END OF THE WALK WAY CLOSER TO THE DOOR, NOW. BEFORE THIS EVENING HE WAS VERY SKIDDISH AND RAN UNDER THE TREES. On the other cat (BROWN) he travels across our back lawn fro another home. I think he is more comfortable with the other lady's deck. I supply the food and treats. The trap that the SPCA apparently did not function as it was suppose to,so I have called the """""no kill shelter""""" who comes and has professionls set the long cages out, then reappear the next day so they can examine, do all blood work, innoculations. After that is done they call me back after they have been somewhat socialized and I can adopt them out or keep them. I am paying for this service. Actually, I thought all orange tabby cats wre highly sought after. That was a surprise. Thank you for the information. You are very correct. No one wants an older cat or an UN TRUE beauty. People on an average NEVER surprise me! _Naes

I am not a cat person, but had to adopt an outdoor cat someone moved & left. I just can't stand for an animal to go hungry. It lives under the house next to me so I put food & water by the hole.
