So cool! I wonder if you take all the potatoes at once from the boiling water to the ice bath or have to do them one at a time?

My next door neighbor in Australia is a sweet old man from Ireland who taught me this trick. He came over to my house when I moved in and brought me potato salad (the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD) and a bottle of whiskey to introduce himself. A couple weeks later I invited him over for dinner if he would make the potato salad in front of me so I could see what he did to make it taste so great. This is how he peeled the potatoes.

I have no idea scotti I would guess if you have enough cold water it would work on multiple potato's.

Good idea, if I ever decide to peel potatoes. I usually like to eat the skins on all potatoes except sweet & yams. Thanks for posting!

croemer: What a neat trick! I know you can do that with those little pearl onions - just boil with skin on and then give them a little squeeze - the onion pops right out. I don't even use the ice bath for those.

And of course smashing a garlic clove instantly ""peels"" it.

LOL!! Well, I don't normally do that but he doesn't measure anything and could only tell me the ingredients so I had to watch him make it so I had an idea of how much of each ingredient that went in. He polished off a half a bottle of Bushmills while we were cooking so hopefully he was alright with it!!

You're welcome everybody! I can't wait to try it myself.

As one poster said I usually eat the sin when I bake a potato but this will really make quick work of potato salad.

Since the video says to leave the potato in the ice bath for 5 seconds I would think leaving a bunch in longer would make the skins soggy? Lower the temperature of the ice water?

I don't boil a lot of potatoes at once for potato salad so this method would work for me.

Maybe you could be ""peeling"" one potato as another one is in the bath. Production-line style.
